It is an Achilles heel for Israel because the military status of the Americans who were attacked means something to most American conservatives. So while they could care less about Rachel Corrie - to them she's just a troublesome protester - the testimony of retired US military means something.

I could care less if the Israelis kill American "service-men" (i.e. terrorist killers). If the Americans don't like it then why don't they kill them back? It's that simple. If you Americans didn't enjoy the USS Liberty and cannot realize the Jews are hostile to everyone, then you have no right to complain. If you were attacked then go kill them back and stop whining. The USS Liberty survivors should have planned a revenge mission on Israel, but they didn't, they just spent the next 40 pathetic years of their lives crying about it and being "mildly critical" of "US support for Israel."
