When I was a lad, Canoga Park was a nice part of town. There were lots of good jobs at Rocketdyne. Some people who worked at Rocketdyne could not afford to buy a home close by, so they bought homes in Lancaster and commuted. Now they can probably afford to buy a home!

I had the same experience... a good neighborhood that people envied eventually went bad in N. St. Louis. Surprising actually, but decay can happen quickly...
Pretty trippy vid. If you have ever been up close to something like this, it is really mind-blowing...

Damn !! They made the neighborhood look like a friggin ghetto! I can't really say that it isn't almost a ghetto at this point. Some parts are ghetto-industrial full-on Tijuana-land with Mexicans on bicycles all over the sidewalks. I saw a Mexican on a bike get nearly run over by a BMW that didn't see him coming into a cross-walk a few months ago and tried to move up to make a right turn; the guy's bike fell on him and saved his ass; he went under the car with his bike and the car's bumper was barely inches away from colliding with his skull. The cops don't bust them for riding on sidewalks up in the more industrial areas where the apartment complexes are whereas down on ventura they would definitely get ticketed. The neighborhood gets better the further south you go towards Topanga Canyon and north towards Chatsworth. A lot of the Porn Valley studios are in Chatsworth, right in the middle of suburbia. You see that big strip club in the first video? That's the only place in all of L.A. that has a full bar and full nudity, you know, not just the usual titties and beer or no-beer-twats-have-no-fear  , who knows how they finagled the license but they advertise this joint with billboards as far away as Hollywood. There's a big post office right next to it. So many rowdy douchebags used to park their car in the post office lot and cause trouble that now they chain the whole parking lot off after 7. Right next to the strip-joint is a Medical Marijuana club owned by the same people where some of the strippers do double duty and serve the potheads their weed. On the other side is a Big Mamma's Pizza, a successful franchise run by Armenians. They've got a giant size pizza that they have to tilt to fit through your door. One of the Vallarta Mexican Supermarkets was shown at the beginning of the second vid. You can drive south about 3 miles from that Vallarta market and hit a gigantic BEV-MO store

that has most of the foreign beers and domestic craft-brews you could ever want, plus my favorite Vodka:

where I buy this stuff http://www.healthycrowd.com/. at $2 a pop (I don't eat refined sugar or any aspartame or nutrasweet, this stuff is fruit juice sweetened plus usually no Gluten also which blocks your cells from absorbing nutrients; the Ginger is my favorite) to chomp down with these brands of tea (I was raised with these; they're basically the favorite of most Iranians and Armenians and other Middle-Easterners):

I used to live in Van Nuys and it was even a worse pocket of SF Valley ghetto there because the neighborhood only got better if your drove South towards Sherman Oaks and stayed the same or got worse the further north you drove. Early Saturday mornings you'd see the whores and pimps working the Motels on Sepulveda Blvd still at it. The whores walking the sidewalks and the pimps coming around every now and then in their cars to check up on 'em.
John Mackey, the gentile CEO of Whole Foods Market, by the way, though a vegan, is not the usual tree-hugging liberal; he's a Libertarian follower of Von Mises, Hayek and Friedman, admirer of Ayn Rand (hopefully not a cult member) and a full on free-market advocate:

his current wife has the last name Morin, which, if I'm not mistaken is Jewish. That is usually not such a good sign. He better watch out lest he get completely co-opted like Alex Jones. Libertarians, even dipshits like Ron Paul and AJ, are usually isolationists on principle who don't support any foreign aid, which is a good thing since you know who receives the biggest chunk of 'aid.' Mackey's also full on against that global-warming racket and the Obama-care slave-care racket and doesn't give 2 shits what his more 'liberal' and socialist customers, which make up a big enough chunk of any health food store for sure, think. Gotta give him points for that. He's got a long way to go before he's Henry Ford but a healthy pair of balls is such a rare thing to see nowadays that it always makes an impression.

I grew up right by there.
Hey CM,
This guy must be from the same old neighborhood or something.... 8-)

I used to work at the tire center in Van Nuys. And I worked at the McDonalds in Pacoima. Also the Gemco in Pacoima. All these streets look very familiar.
Pretty depressing...
but I used to deal with something like this on a daily basis... :wtf: I actually speak inner-city ebonics pretty well... no joking. Stay strapped.. !!
