I've managed to acquire a book in Russian that talks about Zio power in pre-Putin Russia. It names names (some of which are very well known today) and it apparently has specific details about how they bought some politicians. These are the same people that are currently manipulating trades on Wall Street.
Now, I sent this book to be scanned but I don't read/speak Russian so I can't do anything about actually comprehending the thing. I also saw one other book in Hebrew but didn't pick it up because there's probably even less chance that we'll get it translated.
Since all these automatic translation tools are absolute garbage, is there a way to get it done properly? Translation agencies charge like 10-30ยข a word! There's probably a lot of people who speak these languages and would do it for free... but how do you coordinate this? A wiki or something?
Anyone have some advice?

The only problem is that you must read the cracking/installation instructions CAREFULLY before attempting to install it. Take a look at the comments under the torrent as a guide.
I've used all kind of these machine translation tools but they all suck to a certain degree. People translate a lot better and translated text makes much more sense. Translation is not an exact science and is open to interpretation... lots of subtleties! :) Google Translate is a lot better than Systran but it's still crap and you can't rely on it to translate something that you could quote as being reliable. I'd like some forum where you could post chapters and get people to translate it for you. Something like that... the old fashioned way if you will.
If you have it Joe, is it possible for you to put it on a rapidshare in multipart .rars for us torrent-rejects to grab or something else? I would like to grab this :D

I've done a lot of translation in my time, and the notion that a good translator would do more than a few sentences pro bono is way out of the realm of what me or my associates would ever consider reality. When it's your job you don't have spare time or energy to devote to non-paying jobs or projects, nor do you wish to dilute your market.
Then again, armed with translation skills and experience, if there's something the translator himself feels simply must be translated it can become a personal project. But if it's commissioned by someone else, good luck getting a translator already hovering at subsistence level to do it for nothing.

Kolnidre, point fully taken! But think of it this way... if Wikipedia can get free contributions from millions of people, why couldn't a site that's translating books? I'm thinking about setting up a wiki for it. Anyone have some suggestions for a wiki?
I also tried Systran software. It's pretty bad. I was translating some news story from a russian site (wanted to learn about what russian are saying about the war) and results were pretty bad.. not even a single sentence was perfect.

Sorry that I'm still harping on this point, but Systran really is great. The thing is that after you successfully install it, you still must configure it correctly. There is an option within it to select which types of dictionaries to use and one must order them correctly. Also, go through the marking text options to give different colors for different types of translations and to show all possibilities for ambiguous words.
