Both men & women pass on their "Nuclear" autosomal DNA, by each contributing 1 cell to the fertilized egg.

BUT the male's sperm is too small to pass on Mitochondrial DNA.

So the developing embryo gets the Mother's Mitochondrial DNA.

Is this why Jews require the Mother (normally) to be a Jew ?
