Trump selected Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Hegseth is a fanatical Christian Zionist and pro-Israel war hawk with an astounding lack of experience. He was confirmed in the Senate by a vote of 51-50, with the Vice President stepping in to break the tie. Hegseth earned the fewest confirmation votes of any Defense Secretary in U.S. History.

Pete Hegseth has called the two-state solution "lip service" and "effectively dead", and called ceasefire negotiations "blackmail by Hamas."

In 2016, he said his time in the army turned him into a supporter of Israel: "After being in the army and serving in Iraq, I saw different worldviews, and I began to understand Israel's place in the world and where antisemitism comes from... This is not some mystical land that can be undone, this is the story of the chosen people."

Hegseth also said "there's no doubt this is a fight that Israel needs to finish" while lamenting "mainstream media's call for a Palestinian state."

In 2020, he called for massive U.S. military strikes on Iran to take out infrastructure and possibly cultural sites.
