I made the police run away

one night out on the piss, i came across three police conducting an ID check. They only target certain racial groups. So I asked them what gave them the authority to perform such invasive searches into the privacy of humans.

They responded that it was the law.

I asked is it a law or an ordinance

They respond it's an ordinance

I say oh, so it's a statute

they scratch their heads.

I explain that a statute has the force of law in a society, but requires everyone in that society to consent.

they scratch their heads.

I ask if they could tell about the new smoking ordinance.

They say sure.

I ask them what is the definition of a person in the ordinance.

They claim a person is a human being.

I say really, because the definition I read says that a person is a body politic or body of persons corporate or incorporate, and tell them that those refer to government employees only.

they scratch heads and say they have had special training on what the law is.

I say you mean ordinance

They say yes.

I ask them what is the definition of person in the ordinances.

at this point they start moving away from me and say they have to go, and they went quickly as I tried to get the answer.

So it was quite funny because a crowd of people and onlookers had gathered as questioned the police on the definition of the term person.

All in all I would have to say that these 3 police where quite nice to talk to me, but they don't even know what the ordinances actually say. I find this more and more as I question everyone that tells me, you can't do that it's the law.

You da man! I'm, what many have said, an asshole and I love it when people break social constraints and do what's right. Good for you!

Did that conversation take place in the People's Republic of Hong Kong? Unless you're fluent in Cantonese, I would suspect some kind of language barrier would enter the equation at some point. Then again, with the standard of English prevalent these days I doubt most police in English-speaking countries could have an articulate discussion about "legal persons" and statutes versus laws. Wherever you are, keep up the pressure and fight that humanity-squelching machine!

yes the peoples republic of Hong Kong.

Their English was fine, but they tried to tell me that they knew the definition of the term person in Cantonese. so I asked them to tell me what it was defined as in Cantonese. They started to but realized maybe I was right.

the concept of person in an ordinance is one of the things the law makers and law enforcers do not want to address. I have written almost every agency, stating my knowledge of the terms and asking them to clarify. I usually get we have passed the message on to so and so. or If you need legal advice please contact a lawyer. I write back usually
Why should I follow these statutes if you don't even know what they mean, you enforce them or you write them, surely you should be able to explain them.

Anyway I am trying to challenge nicely and make people aware of these things, but I find that most are startled out of their dream state and then settle right back in.

I bet their definition of person in Cantonese is simply "legal person," which I suppose is the same as "corporate entity." In Mandarin it's fa ren.

Have you heard Vyzygoth's series of interviews with The Informer, also affectionately known as the I-Man? He woke me up to some facts regarding laws and statutes defined for states and corporations, not individuals. In fact, he argues that the US Constitution is a contract between the states and the federal government, and has little to do with protecting the people. And that's why we've seen judges in recent years flat out declare that the Constitution doesn't apply in their court room.

Hope I haven't led the topic too far off tangent. It's just fascinating and shocking to wake up and realize basically everything we've been taught has been a fucking lie.

I can dig out my other conversations if people are interested.

you can do this as well
first understand they are speaking legaleese. It looks like english, but it is not
Secondly deconstruct the statutes
use their words and turn them back on themselves.

never stay say you understand a term, it means you stand under it.

They will eventually say that they are not in the position to give out legal advice and go talk to a lawyer.

but I think if they are in an authority for the statute, that they should be able to explain it.
