Police protecting Jews at protests for Flotilla killings

Just spoke with a friend (he knows the score) who lives in a major North American city.

Two days ago he happened to be driving by the Israeli Consulate where a bunch of Turkish people were protesting the attack on Aid flotilla and killing of Turks. He was stuck in traffic for awhile and observed what was going on.

There were also a small group of Jews there waving Israeli flags with bullhorns shouting "the media is lying to you, Israel did nothing".

The police were there surrounding and protecting the Jews even though the Turks showed no sign of threatening them.

Police protecting Jews at protests for Flotilla is like protecting roaches from a can of Raid!  If the roaches know better, they should crawl deep down in the sewer where they belong.

i had a similar experience at the 2001 Academy Awards.  a group of about 50 people were there to protest the selection of Bush.  the protest was organized by Bob Kunst, an activist from Florida who went berserk (to his credit)  & protest Bush's selection.

we had staked out the best real estate - right across the street from where the actors & actresses enter the Temple Theatre.

so all day long, that's what happened.  a group of B-list celebs had to stand in line across the street listening to our protest.  the A-list celebs just pulled up in their limo's and got hustled onto the red carpet & into the Theatre.

and the whole time, the LAPD was marching back & forth, right in front of us, almost as if they were protecting us.

i later on found that - well, Kunst ran for governor in Florida.  after 9-11 his pro-Israel credentials came out.  i was pretty surprised, given that his opposition to Bush was related to Bush's pro-war tendencies.

as it turned out, Kunst is Jewish.  i don't know if that affected the treatment our group received from LAPD.  this was in 2001, and i still thought of LAPD in the context of Rodney King, like the LAPD likes to use their night-sticks on the non-chosen.

but that day, at the protest, it was so wierd having the police literally marching in front of us giving us no flak or heat whatsoever.

it doesn't prove or dis-prove anything, just a unique protest experience i had.

there were 2 teams on top of nearby buildings photographing us the whole time.  cameras pointed straight at us.
