Yeah, but that might jeopardize his job as spokesperson for his sponsors.  Ahmadinejad certainly diminishes his standing as an anti-Zionist refusing to rise to the MSMD standard-bearing insight into 9/11 instigation.  Amidst all  Ahmadinejad's anti-Zionist ranting he goes all Alex Jones on us when it comes to 9/11.

The English translation of Ahmadinejad's recent UN speech linked below gives his 9/11 diatribe at around 9:40, and at 10:30 the English translation cites him saying:

"In identifying those responsible in the September 11th attacks there were three viewpoints.  First that a very powerful and complex terrorist group able to successfully cross all layers of American intelligence and security carried out the attack.  This is the prevalent viewpoint which has been supported mainly and advocated by American statesmen.  Second, that some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy and its grips on the middle East in order to save the Zionist regime.  The majority of the American people as well as most nations and politicians around the world agree with this view.  Third, it was carried out by a terrorist group but that the American government supported and took advantage of the situation.  Apparently this viewpoint has fewer proponents.   The main evidence for this viewpoint links the incident with a few passports found in the huge volume of rubble and a video of an individual who's place of domicile is unknown, but it was announced that he had been involved in oil deals with some American officials.  It was also covered up  and said that due to the explosion and fire no trace of suicide attackers was found.  Regardless of each of these three viewpoints, there remain a few questions to be answered.  First, would it have not been sensible that first a thorough investigation should have been conducted by independant groups to conclusively identify the elements used in the attack and then map out a rational plan to take measures against them?  Second, assuming the viewpoint of the American government, is it rational to launch a classic war through widespread deployment of troops that lead to the death of hundreds of thousands of people to counteract a terrorist group?  Third was it not possible to act the way Iran conducted the operations fighting the Riga terrorist group who killed and wounded 400 innocent people?  In the Iranian operation no innocent person was harmed.  It is proposed that the United Nations set up an independant fact finding group for the events of September 11 so that in the future expressing views about it, so that to ensure that the different views about it are not banned from discussion in the future.  I wish to announce here that next year the Islamic republic of Iran will host a conference to study terrorism and the means to confront it."

Giving the benefit of the doubt where due, if I'm Ahmadinejad with a speaking engagement at the UN (regardless of whether or not I'm controlled opposition) I know the forum - hosted by the United States - functions under the control of Zionist interests, so going for the jugular and saying 'Israeli Mossad instigated 9/11 with copious assistance from rogue factions within the United States' (rather than 'the US did it for the love of Abraham')  might pose something of a party foul.  

Ahmadinejad provides three-point emphasis that the United States did it, with only honorary mention of Zionist concern, and he certainly dodges unforgiving circumstances either way his interests may run.  But his recycling that old bogus cover story about the passports found in the 9/11 rubble (minus aircraft parts) smells like shite.  Plus if Ahmadinejad were serious about engaging the world in an open dialog about 9/11 he could start by openly discussing the evidence about it in Iranian society, not to mention inviting prominent researchers bringing the strongest 9/11 facts to the table (if he were actually interested in global understanding and calling out perpetrators).  But no, instead we get his half-assed attempt at reciting Alex Jones spin with the cameras staged to watch the indignant self-righteousness of the United States on display as they walk out.

So I give the 'Ahmadinejad Alex Jones impersonation at the United Nations' 2-stars, one for shaming the US on inside-jobbing 9/11 and another for shaming the US on its arrogance.  'See the US are the real belligerents', cool, got that sound-bite back to The Daily Show.
