Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov was among those arrested outside a Moscow court on Friday where members of Russian punk group Pussy Riot were found guilty of hooliganism.

A post on Kasparov's Facebook page indicates the 50-year-old was also beaten by police.

The Facebook update reads: "We just spoke to Garry on the phone. He is at the police station. He was beaten but says he is okay. He isn't sure what will happen next. It seems the police are waiting for orders from above."

A video posted on the BBC website shows Kasparov, a pro-democracy activist, speaking to journalists outside the punk rockers' hearing in Moscow when police grab him and drag him to a nearby police van.

The video shows Kasparov saying, "He uses law, or what is left of Russian law to protect his own stay in power," moments before his arrest.

Kasparov became the youngest-ever undisputed World Chess Champion in 1985 at the age of 22. He retired in 2005 to devote his time to politics and writing.

The Russian chess grandmaster was a leader amongst the opposition activists after Vladimir Putin was elected president in March, after serving as president from 2000 to 2008 and then moving into the prime minister's office to avoid a constitutional ban on more than two consecutive terms.

During an anti-Putin protest Kasparov was quoted as saying, "This was not an election. This was a special operation run by a thug who wanted to return to the Kremlin."

Meanwhile, protests continue around the globe after three members of the all-girl Russian punk band were each sentenced to two years in prison for staging a guerrilla performance of a song that criticized Putin.

The members of Pussy Riot have already been in jail for six months.

Immediately after the decision was issued, Twitter came alive with supporters of the band slamming the ruling and calling on like-minded sympathizers to join demonstrations.

After the Revolution of 1905, the Czar had prudently prepared for further outbreaks by transferring some $400 million in cash to the New York banks, Chase, National City, Guaranty Trust, J.P.Morgan Co., and Hanover Trust. In 1914, these same banks bought the controlling number of shares in the newly organized Federal Reserve Bank of New York, paying for the stock with the Czar\'s sequestered funds. In November 1917,  Red Guards drove a truck to the Imperial Bank and removed the Romanoff gold and jewels. The gold was later shipped directly to Kuhn, Loeb Co. in New York.-- Curse of Canaan

Didn't you know that Garry  :^)  Kasperov is a Jew?
[Warning: I just discovered that we can only use 20 smiley faces per post... I had to cut some out.]

I used my super-sleuthing ability to discover this after reading your post. [NAME + Jewish in a search engine]

This is what I found:

Kasparov whose real name is Weinstein  :^)  is an Armenian jew of Nagorno
Kharabak.

Most people only know the artist name of famous game player Garry Kasparov.
What most people do not know:
Garry Kasparov's real name is Garik Weinstein and is  :^)  jewish, (as the
name already indicates), and he was raised in Baku, Azerbeidjan.
And he is good friend with nearly every russian oligarch  <$>  and looter,  <$>
as nearly all of them are jews  <:^0  (at least five of the six ones which
still live in Russia).

His movement Other Russia  :^)  was funded by the former jewish vice director of
Yukos,  <:^0  the fugitive criminal Nevzlin who settled in Israel.

Excerpt:

Far more disturbing than Kasparov's status as a "contributing editor" to the
Wall Street  :^)  Journal, even as the same paper writes up his role in the
protest movement, are his ties to the far-right foreign policy machine.
Specifically, Gary Kasparov is, or was, a member of the neo-con  <$>  Center for
Security Policy. The think-tank's  :^)  mission statement declares that it is
"committed to the time-tested philosophy of promoting international peace
through American strength."  <:^0  And Kasparov is not just a casual member - he
once served on the CSP's National Security Advisory Council, an
inner-working group headed by ex-CIA goon James Woolsey. It's a group with
extensive ties to the Pentagon. The Center for Security Policy's member list
reads like a Who's Who of the  <:^0  neo-con elite: along with Woolsey, it boasts
:^)  Richard Perle,  :^)  Douglas Feith,  :^)  Elliott Abrams and  :^)  Frank Gaffney, and was
highly influential not just in formulating President Bush's disastrous
imperial strategy in his first term, but also in lobbying for the repeal of
the ABM treaty, a move which was in many ways the start of the growing rift
between Russia and America.

The major Western media has yet to report Kasparov's role in the Center for
Security Policy. And the organization has done its best to air-brush
Kasparov's membership from its history. Kasparov's name no longer appears on
the CSP's website, although if you look through wikipedia, you'll find the
cached web pages that used to be up. Why would they try to erase the past?

One reason why Kasparov's name was removed has to do with conflict of
interest. After last weekend's protest, not only did the Wall Street Journal
shake its indignant fist at Putin's authoritarianism on behalf of its own
contributing editor, but the Washington Times and other outlets printed an
equally damning, pro-Kasparov piece by none other than Frank Gaffney, the
Center for Security Policy's founder. Neither Gaffney nor the Washington
Times mentioned his links to Kasparov.

It is not only odd that the Western media is ignoring this - it's downright
sinister. And it feeds into the paranoia and cynicism which fuels the
Kremlin's thinking. It's almost too perfect, too clean: the leader of the
anti-Putin movement is directly tied to the American far right, whose stated
goal is to keep Russia weak and to claim the resources in its backyard.
Meanwhile, the supposedly-free Western media not only doesn't report this,
but builds up Kasparov as a modern-day Gandhi

Go to exile.ru,tv (use the search to find exile.tv) and look at the
shots of them supporting and filming the riots. This is what agent
provocateurs do. Look at their support of Kasparov during these riots
especially in Siberia. Look at Bang Bang Babuskha and see Matt Taibini a
joint editor of exile with Mark Ames high on ritalin and viagra having sex
with an 80 year old woman in a field.  <WTF>  This by the way is an offence against
public order in Russia and these people have to have heavy weight protection
to avoid prosecution. Taibini after running this operation went onto a write
the hit piece for Rolling Stone and has recently written a piece for
antiwar.com on corruption in Iraq. [I think he means Matt Taibbi?] This piece is propoganda to blame Bush
and Cheney instead of the people Christopher Bollyn has been identifying all
of whom are international jews.

Look at Kaspsarov's support of Edward Liminov (is this his real name)
and exile's employment of Liminov as a "western journalist" so that they can
give him political cover when he is next arrested for formenting a riot.
Look at Liminov's meeting with Dick Cheney organised by Ames and Kasparov.

Just look behind this magazine and you have a really developed
destabilisation operation going in Russia today and this is just one example
there must be dozens more.
