I would beg to differ that the US State Dept. has been "caught in a lie".  Nobody has established with certainty in the press at this time, who attacked Syrian hospitals with MSF doctors in them. 

Therefore, what the US says here is not a " lie", it just lacks adequate proof.  Proof which would consist of revealing sources of military intelligence to an antagonistic state.

Let's also consider the bigger picture.  Russia is oddly silent on whom they think did this terrible thing.  They were operating in the area, and they appear to have some sort of airspace dominance over Syria, so it's not like the aircraft delivering the ordnance wouldn't have appeared on their radars. 

So where is Russia on the mystery? Silent like the cat that ate the canary.
