Two Soldiers Shot Dead in Bosnian Capital

Police in Bosnia's Canton of Sarajevo said a man killed two members of the Bosnian Army inside a betting shop in the suburb of Rajlovac at around 7:30 pm.

The reasons for the attack are unknown but television N1 reported that the attacker shouted the Islamist slogan "Allahu Akbar" before shooting the soldiers. This report has not been confirmed.

"It's still too early to talk about terrorism," Dragan Lukac, the Director of the Federal Police Directorate, told television N1.

"We still have no confirmation that this was a terrorist attack, we hope it was not," Perica Stanic, director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, told the media.

After killing the two soldiers, the attacker turned against a bus that was parked near the betting shop, wounding another soldier who was standing close to it.

The bus driver together with two of the passengers were reported to be slightly injured, apparently by fragments of glass.

SIPA said it was deploying a special team in support of the investigation carried out by the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the past few hours the police had surrounded one house in the Sokolje neighbourhood. Media have reported that the house belonged to the suspect who has been identified as the shooter who killed two soldiers tonight in Sarajevo and that he has committed suicide.

However, the Director of the Federation police could only confirm that one person committed suicide, and that police teams were currently carrying out investigation to confirm person's identity and whether indeed he was the shooter.

Police forces around the house in Sokolje were seen leaving the scene.
