Interesting article, dated November 19, 2019, in the very mainstream "Popular Science" magazine, entitled:
What to do if you're exposed to tear gas
By Sandra Gutierrez G.
November 19, 2019

It starts off innocently enough, as if, purely by accident, you might find yourself wandering into, or find yourself in, tear gas.  Oops!
QuoteThis may sound like something you won't necessarily have to face,...

But, read a few more paragraphs, and the article seems to anticipate that you will need to know what to do when you are teargassed, because the article anticipates that you will be protesting.

QuoteBefore exposure: be ready

Prepare your signs, your banners, and whatever you use to make some noise, but make sure you leave room for some essentials that will come in handy if you ever find yourself engulfed in a thickening cloud of gas.

Now, how did they know, and why did they think their readers - middle-class people, mostly, presumably - would be protesting?

Isn't that interesting.  A how-to manual for protesters in a mainstream publication like "Popular Science" magazine.
