Today, Thursday [5/26/22], members of the Iraqi parliament voted in favor of a proposed law to criminalize normalization with Israel in a festive atmosphere, at a time when the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, called on his supporters to take to the streets to celebrate the vote.

The Parliament's media department said - in a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) - that the vote on this law submitted by the Legal Committee was unanimously attended by those present.

The same source clarified that the law aims to preserve national, Islamic and humanitarian principles in Iraq, given the great danger that ensues from normalization with the occupying "Zionist entity," promoting it, communicating or establishing any relationship with it.

He added that it aims to cut off the road for anyone who wants to establish any kind of relations with the occupying "Zionist entity", and to put a deterrent punishment against it, and to preserve the unity of the ranks among the people and their national and Islamic identity.

Parliament witnessed a festive atmosphere after the vote on the law, and videos circulated by Iraqis on their social media accounts showed members celebrating this vote.

The leader of the Sadrist movement rushed to call on his supporters to take to the streets to celebrate the vote on the "criminalizing normalization" law.

For his part, Hakim Al-Zamili, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that the law banning normalization won the unanimous vote of the voters and represents a true reflection of the will of the people, describing it as the first position of its kind globally in terms of criminalizing the relationship with Israel, calling on Arab and Islamic parliaments to issue similar legislation that meets the aspirations of their people.

Reactions
The reactions and comments of Iraqis on social media platforms varied, between welcoming the legislation of the law, and skeptical about its applicability on the ground, while others considered it an instrument of innocence for political blocs accused of normalization with Israel and voted today on the law.

The former deputy and leader of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Naim al-Aboudi, said on his Twitter account: "The Iraqi parliament's vote on a law criminalizing normalization with the Israeli enemy, at a time of congestion over the signatures of normalization and bowing, with the unprecedented pressure that Iraq is subjected to, is a brave decision. It is sovereign and deserves Iraqis to be proud of, and it will restore life to the pulse of the Palestinian cause."

Former MP and politician Kamel al-Dulaimi said on his Twitter account that "after the acquittal of ISIS and its actions comes the acquittal of the Kurds and Sunnis from a charge attached to them not long ago after voting on this law."

The media, Rinas Ali, commented, through his account on Twitter, saying: "The law is a slap to every ignorant person looking for stability in the region under the pretext of peace with and recognition of this statelet."

The journalist, Mazen Al-Zaidi, said on his Twitter account: "The lesson is in the application. The decision to expel the foreign forces was voted on, but its implementation was stalled by parties who boycotted the vote."

Journalist Saif Salah al-Hiti wrote on his Twitter account: "It is not an underestimation of the law banning normalization from Israel, but the Arabs are all Arabs, and since the Nakba, they have presented Palestine with nothing but slogans, laws, and statements of denunciation and denunciation, and these do not fatten or sing from hunger and our people are killed every day, displaced and oppressed. But he stressed that what happened is recorded in the category of opposition and honorable positions.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) had earlier expressed its appreciation for the Iraqi parliament's adoption of the law criminalizing normalization with Israel in its first reading, noting that it expresses the authenticity of the Iraqi people and their historical positions in support of the Palestinian people and the justice of their national cause.

Iraq does not establish any relations with Israel, and the majority of its political forces reject normalization with it.

In September 2021, tribal figures held a conference entitled "peace" in Erbil (the largest city in the Kurdistan region) and called for normalizing relations with Israel, in an unprecedented Iraqi event.

This call aroused widespread political and popular condemnation, and calls for the punishment of those responsible for it and those participating in it.

That is impressive.

The US completely beat the shit out of them.

Maybe they'll be able to build a nuclear program that doesn't depend on a centralized facility.
