The covert front: Is Israel engineering violence in the West?

In the Canadian city of Montreal last week, pro-Palestine protests, which were also in opposition to a NATO conference, turned violent when demonstrators reportedly smashed windows, burnt vehicles, attacked police officers, and set off smoke bombs and fireworks. Those were acts of vandalism that were condemned by officials including Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, who branded the "appalling" events as "acts of antisemitism, intimidation, and violence".

At a news conference shortly after, however, Montreal's mayor Valérie Plante told journalists that she believes the protests were taken over "by professional vandals", acknowledging that police in the city are used to a common occurrence in which "agitators" – reportedly often known as the Black Bloc – show up at protests to vandalise property.

"The protest itself was to share concern about what's happening in Palestine and vandals took over the protest", she said. "It's using a cause to break things and put people's security at risk. Protesting is a sign of a healthy democracy, but the vandals are just thinking of themselves and not the cause or the effects it will have on everyone else".

A political protest simply turned sour by anarchist and Marxist agitators of a violent and revolutionary nature? Such an incident apparently seems innocent enough, and certainly possible given the very mixed and multi-faceted nature of the pro-Palestinian and anti-NATO crowd in general.

Yet there also seems to be a more sinister element at play in these demonstrations-turned-violent throughout Western nations.

A month before the events in Montreal, violence kicked off In the Netherlands' capital Amsterdam in October following a football match between Dutch team Ajax and Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv. In scenes that saw widespread fighting on the streets of the European city, Israeli and Western media quickly branded the events as the result of anti-semitism, claiming that Dutch youth of Moroccan descent had wantonly attacked Israeli fans, with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemning the "assault on our citizens".

Those reports were very quickly found to be in contradiction to extensive eyewitness and video evidence, however, which showed the Israeli fans aggravating the situation by first chanting anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian slogans – such as "no schools in Gaza because there are no children left" and "let the IDF win to f**k the Arabs" – while pulling down Palestinian flags, attacking a taxi driver, vandalising property, and assaulting those who attempted to prevent them.

Yet rather than simply being a coincidental affair, there soon emerged reports of possible involvement and premeditation by Israel's foreign intelligence service the Mossad, in concerns first echoed by Watheq Alsadeh, a Palestinian community leader In the Netherlands, who stated in a video interview on Al-Ghad TV that what happened "has been carefully preplanned by the intelligence agencies – and I hope that the Dutch intelligence is not complicit in this – along with the Israeli Mossad and Shin Bet."

He expressed his belief that "the Israeli Mossad is the main planner behind what happened in Amsterdam. After 13 months of crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza, Israel has gained a bad reputation among Europeans, and yesterday was its only chance to turn the tables, media wise, to serve its interests. Look who stands to gain from this, and you will find the Mossad and the occupation."

At face value, his claims were just that: claims, unsubstantiated by any real evidence or material which could back them up aside from similar speculation across social media.

But soon enough, online users began noticing content that seemed to have foresaw or predicted the violence in Amsterdam and Israeli intelligence's potential involvement, such as reports in European and Israeli media having revealed prior to the football match that Mossad agents would be accompanying Maccabi Tel Aviv fans to the Dutch capital to provide enhanced security.

That measure was reportedly due to security concerns Israeli authorities were allegedly aware of in advance regarding the "very high risk" of such an incident, warned of in a document by Israel's Diaspora Affairs Ministry.

Despite all the seeming rhetoric and media bustle clouding the issue, agent provocateurs groomed and controlled by Israeli intelligence are a very real possibility in the protests we are seeing across the Western world.

Back in February this year, an organisation which calls itself the 'Shirion Collective' – a self-described "private Jewish surveillance force" – stated openly in a (now deleted) post on X that it was seeking "volunteers willing to wear keffiyehs and walk in" pro-Palestine demonstrations throughout major cities that month as part of a project it branded 'Operation Global Insight'

Under that apparent initiative, the group claimed that it will offer cash compensation to "individuals with Arabic-sounding names and Middle Eastern appearance" who "may be uniquely positioned for deeper infiltration" into the pro-Palestine movement. Furthermore, it said it would provide recruits with training from "one of our ex-Mossad team leads".

While the veracity and authenticity of such a project has not been verified, and while it may indeed simply be a bluff or the fantasies of a Zionist supremacist, the extent of Israel's intelligence reach is already known.

Aside from official agents and affiliated counterparts amongst the Western intelligence community, the Mossad has a wide network of helpers throughout the world, an example being the 'Sayanim' – helpers and volunteers embedded throughout the Jewish diaspora communities – who reportedly assist them in their missions.

According to the British investigative journalist Gordon Thomas, who wrote of the topic in his book 'Gideon's Spies', "Without its Sayanim, Mossad could not operate", with there having been "more than 4,000 Sayanim in Britain, almost four times as many as in the US" by 1998.

As a self-proclaimed Jewish state, Israel exploits and utilises the global Jewish diaspora – communities not at fault themselves – to secure its own interests in the name of the Zionist project. In such a way has that ancient name of Israel and its long historical legacy been so hijacked by the Zionists that they understand the power of a diaspora community and the longing for its spiritual 'homeland' as a centre of gravitational power.

It is a theme common between many Jewish and twelver Shiite communities, who both have their own spiritual and political heartlands to which they owe their loyalties and to which they can serve and report. That in itself does not necessitate members of those communities taking up the role of covert operatives for – in this example – Israel or Iran, but it serves as a substantial foundation from which those states and their governments can readily exploit and cultivate such operatives.

It is something that Sunnis have almost always lacked as a whole, even during successive 'caliphates' until the fall of the Ottomans. Inevitable divisions and the decentralised nature of Sunni Islam results in its contemporary followers shifting between sympathy for states such as Turkiye, Qatar, or Saudi Arabia, depending on their sects or subdivisions.

Even then, there is no strong coordinated network of intelligence gathering or espionage exploited from their sympathisers. A foreign Sufi who is pro-Turkiye, for example, does not spy for Ankara, and a western Salafi does not report all activities to Riyadh.

The same cannot be said of Israel and its intelligence services, on the other hand, which certainly monitor and surveil, most definitely have the capabilities and networks to carry out global operations as has been done over the decades, and may indeed be sowing discord and instigating civil violence throughout the Western world.
