I've been seeing a lot of fucking weird shit here in Sweden, too many to completely list, but here are some of the most interesting tidbits:

Reversal in defence policy reforms
The government has decided against disbanding army units as a part of Sweden's ongoing defence policy reform process, electing instead to create a new ground combat reserve group.

Swedish labour model talks collapse
Talks between Sweden's main employers' and employees' associations on a major revision to the agreement which has governed Sweden's labour relations for seven decades, collapsed on Wednesday.The talks began in August 2008 and were described as a new Saltsjöbaden agreement (Saltsjöbadsavtalet) - a landmark deal signed in 1938 in the Stockholm suburb of the same name which has governed Swedish labour relations since.

The government has said it plans to reject applications from Swedish colleges (högskolor) interested in upgrading their status to full-fledged universities.

Police in nationwide sweep of drug buyers
Swedish police on Thursday carried out raids against 447 suspected drugs buyers across the entire country.

Security police probe Södertälje fires
Three supermarkets were destroyed and a fourth damaged as a wave of arson attacks hit Södertälje in central Sweden in the early hours of Thursday morning. Security police (Säpo) have been called in to investigate a connection between the attacks and an anti-US extreme left wing group.

Layoffs hit Sweden's schools
Teachers are in danger of losing their jobs in roughly one third of Sweden's 290 municipalities, a sign that the weak economy is now set to take its toll on the country's schools.
