O:  Greeting, and welcome to TIU Radio—TheInfoUnderground.com; today's date is Thursday, 30th of April 2009 and I'm your host, Ognir; welcome to the show.  Today I have coming-up a very, very interesting guest I'm just waiting on a six-term congresswoman to get back with me and get this interview going, so we'll be back shortly...  And we are joined on the line by six-term Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.  Cynthia, welcome to the show and thank your for allowing us some of your very precious time.
CM:  Well, thank you very much!  You've managed to find me as I've tucked myself away in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; I've tucked myself away in Haiti.
O:  What is your connection to Haiti?
CM:  Well, um, I actually came here with the objective in mind of escaping from people like you so that I could actually write a book, AND notwithstanding that, I've been found! I don't think there's a single spot on this planet I could go to and someone not recognize me or uh me not be found and I'm actually to be found and I'm in the final stages of my book, so I hope to be able to say, "Mission Accomplished" once I leave here.
O:  Um, you want to tell us a little about your book?
CM:  It's, um, a series of vignettes, it's not really a, you know, an autobiographical tome, but it's a very short little, hopefully up-lifting um book that chronicles a few of my experiences both in and out of Congress and some of the things that actually motivate me to the activism and the public service for which I've become world-reknown in some circles and too reviled in OTHER circles.  *laughter*
O:  I'm sure we're going to talk about that; you were a congresswoman from 1993-2003, and then again from 2005 until 2007.  Um, the first question I'd like to ask you is I've been reading some information about yourself and your family and I came across your father who seems to be another prominent activist and uh leader in Georgia, and actually you were a father-and-daughter team if that's correct; what spurred you to get into politics and especially the reason for wanting to get into Washington, DC?
CM:  Well, I'll tell you that nowhere in my plan was there this idea that I was going to run for office and I would end-up in Congress and in terms  of making human rights the center-point for, uh, U S activity abroad, and frankly, at home.  Um, that wasn't a part of my plan, but I, um, I became involved in politics basically at the behest of my father, who actually put my name on the ballot when I was away in Jamaica, um, having a baby, and I didn't even know that he had put my name on the ballot!  He was having a little beef with one of his colleagues in the Georgia legislature and—so—the way he got back with the colleague was to put me down to run against her, and um, but it didn't take long for things to go sour for me in Jamaica, so I came back with nothing but a baby and, uh, I know many of the women who are listening to this can compare this to the experience; I got married, I had a baby, uh the marriage didn't work out so well, so and obviously I left my country, too, and then I had to come back, I decided, "You know, my dad had this idea, maybe I'll follow-up on it", and I ran for a seat and against all of the, you know, pundits I won.  And that is what made my father, and me, the first and ONLY, actually legislative father-daughter team in the entire United States—both served in the Georgia House of Representatives and both served together—my father ASSUMED that he had TWO votes instead of the normal one vote most in the legislature HAVE, and as it turned-out, he and I dis-agreed on so many issues that his idea just went-up in flames and our disagreements made the newspaper and um we became sort of a "cause celebre" UNTIL I ran afoul of the pro-Israel lobby once I ran for Congress, and honestly, I was NOT supposed to win that Congressional seat; I WON that seat, though, on the fact that my father had been a, a civil rights stalwart worker—one of the un-named hundreds of thousands of people who did the work of civil rights in the United States during and before the time of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and then AFTER that time and my father was a direct beneficiary  of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  in fact he was there, in Selma, at the time of "The Bloody Sunday;" "Bloody Sunday" was when the uh Blacks were demonstrating for the right to vote in Alabama; the governor at that time, George Wallace, sent out the members of the National Guard and the local police.  They beat-up the marchers who were trying to cross the Edmond-Pettice Bridge going FROM Selma into Montgomery; it became known as "Bloody Sunday" as a result of that and the fact that it was televised and the people all over the United States saw what black people were going through just to get a right-to-vote; President Lyndon Johnson was so outraged at what happened that he made a commitment to uh, uh, uh, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that they would, that the Congress would pass and he would sign the "Voting Rights Act."  And WHEN the "Voting Rights Act" was signed into law, it mandated that certain changes in the administration of elections take place in places like Georgia and it was at that point BEFORE the signing of the "Voting Rights Act" that my father had run for office and lost, had run for office again and lost, and then when those CHANGES took place my father ran for office and he WON as a result of a much more level playing field and that began, that began the McKinney story in Georgia and that's where MY story in Georgia begins as well.
O:  OK, so I guess you have a piece of history in there as well...I heard that uh, your, your, your father was a policeman and he used to actually bring you up on his shoulders and he'd actually protest outside his own police station; is that correct?
CM:  YES!!  *surprise*  Um, you've done quite a bit of research, but yes, um, he actually did that because, of course, this was during the time of segregation when he became one of the first Black police officers in the city of Atlanta.  And so, that meant that whatever the indignities were that Blacks had to endure at that time, then he had to endure them as well even though he wore the "blue uniform."  And these little indignities that he had to endure were like, for example, they couldn't change their uniforms, from their civilian clothes and vice versa, at their headquarters of the police department!  They had to go down the street around the corner to the black YMCA, and that's where they had to maintain their lockers and change their clothes into and out of their police uniforms.  If they happened to see a White person, um, who was, um you know, inside the city of Atlanta who was committing a crime, then they couldn't arrest that White person; they had to get on the phone and CALL um, a White police office to come and arrest the White person who was committing the crime.  Of course, by that time, um that person had long since departed, and um, you know, there was a lot of um, of um, White criminal activity that was not prosecuted; HOWEVER, this was not a reciprocal relationship.  The White police officers could come into the Black community at ANY time and not only arrest Blacks who were committing crimes, but they could, um mess with, um um um um harrass Blacks who were NOT committing a crime—IN FACT they could BEAT them and one of the things my father protested against a lot was that the White police officers would come into the Black community—maybe they were having a bad day or whatever and they wanted to beat-up somebody—so they would find a random Black man, they would handcuff him to the telephone pole where the lines, the the um electricity and the telephone lines were trans, you know, connected, and they would BEAT him!  And this was the kind of thing that happened all the time and my father would come home and he would complain to us, I would overhear—he would complain to my mother and I would overhear—um these complaints, and finally he decided, you know, I'm going to protest and he protested these things and every time he protested these things, somebody else got a promotion.  And that was the beginning of my understanding as I look back on, um, him that was the beginning of my understanding of "public service with great private sacrifice and service without expectation of reward."  So, my father basically, through his own, um, behaviour and activities, demonstrated what I later became and the Congress, who other people to this day—I, um, just opened-up an e-mail and one young man is telling me that now is "my" time, not "ME" PERSONALLY, but people who THINK like me and BELIEVE like me that now is our time because we are seeing the disintegration of the Republican party.  And for people who understand neither the Republican nor the Democratic party can deliver to the people that which they need because those parties have been COMPLETELY taken OVER by special interested, now is the time for those of us who are not tied to those special interests to step-forward.  And I began to compose a response to and say, "Yes, I understand EXACTLY what you are saying and I understand your analysis, but at the same TIME when there is this time, there is also the private sacrifice that people don't know about!"  And so how long do those public figures sacrifice privately, and when I look-back at those people who are my role-models like, for example, Malcolm X, his entire life was private sacrifice.  And if I look at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., his entire life was private sacrifice; people celebrate Rosa Parks today, but Rosa Parks couldn't get a job in Montgomery after she remained seated on that bus.  She couldn't find employment from any of the Black institutions in Montgomery who SHUNNED HER because of the HEAT that came-down on her because she took a stand and she had to leave and go to Michigan and, um, that's where she and her husband re-located because the bore the BRAND of um, this retribution on her family *bells begins ringing* because she dared to take a stand.  Well it's no different what happened to them to what happens to me on a daily basis.  And I have not talked about it, you know, and I've tried to bear it with some measure of grace but, um, how long do you WATCH as those who inflict the kinds of damage to me personally that they are doing now to my country and to the global community, and they do it WITH IMPUNITY.  And um, so, I have a lot of, um, this time that I am spending in Haiti is also good for "recharging the batter," good for refocusing, trying to figure out what the next steps are; people are looking to ME expecting a certain measure of leadership from me and honestly, I DO have to take SOME TIME and recharge the batter.  The Everready batteries that you know, they talk about the bunny that goes on forever, or maybe that's Duracell *laughter* I can't remember now, but, um, even they have to be recharged.  So, this time is not just for book writing, it's for recharging, too, I think.
O:  I think that, um, there might be some pent-up resentment from the treatment that you um, um, got in Washington, which I want to get on to next—I just want to go back to your um, um, um during your, your, your six terms in, in, in the Congress, you changed districts; you went from the 4th to the 11th District, there was gerrymandering going-on, which is illegal and an issue...can you give me a little background you know, you know, I won't say but there's another famous guy who says, "I've done the research." I did a little bit of research, Cynthia, on you, in preparation for this show and what I came across, you weren't just, you mentioned the pro-Israel lobby in Washington, but I'm talking about your districts, um, um, um.  That they, they, they resorted to all sorts of uh, uh, uh, different harrassments on you.  I was reading, let me read to you, now this I found absolutely horrific statement about you that was made in 2002.  I don't know whether you read this, but let me read it to you.  Let's go on about when you were a visiting professor at Cornell University, you remember that?
CM:  OH...gosh...*laughter*
O:  Let me read this and I think that this is just absolutely SHOCKING...a shocking statement.  "At this point McKinney took a position as a visiting professor at Cornell University."  Cornell,  professor, uh, Cornell University Professor Peter Schwarz said, and I quote, "The selection of McKinney as a visiting professor is an afrontment to the intellectualism of Cornell University.  Miss McKinney is a racist and an anti-semite of the first-rank; if she were White and a male, she would be David Duke."  I mean that is OUTRAGEOUS.  Um, now, I called Washington the "District of Criminals," a "viper pit."  Now, you've survived, Congresswoman, um six terms there; what sort of, um, can you give us some detail of, which is quite obvious if you look into it, you have an  open-mind, that Washington is under a state, that Washington, DC, is under a state of siege, uh, by a very, uh, powerful group.  Um, you named them a pro-Israel group.  Can you give me some more details about the harrassment that uh, that over your twelve years you, uh, you suffered?
CM:  Well, um, if I were to give an accounting, um, I would think I would use up ALL of your time *laughter (O cuts in) that you have allotted; I think that what I'll do is I'll pick one story that could be illustrative of, uh, you know some of the things that happened.  Um, during the 2002 re-election campaign, there was a gentleman who was in my campaign headquarters, who, um, basically, um, this gentelman...identified himself...as an observer, a political observer of our campaign, and um he would sit in a rocking chair with my father at the campaign headquarters and they would share stories about the campaign, the state of politics, and that sort of thing.  This gentelman be-friended my FATHER; well, after the election was over and all kinds of things happened, like the loss of the keys to the vans that would transport people, to the loss of the phones from the phone-banking room that was an off-site place that no one was supposed to know the location of, this particular gentleman who had identified himself as a stateless Palestinian went on the television and announced himself as the Southern Regional Buraeu Chief for one of the pro-Israel organizations.  So our campaign was disrupted and TOTALLY disrupted, particularly on election day, and that was the link; we didn't know until election but then this particular volunteer showed-up on television...
O:  Can you put a name to this guy; is this guy still around?...
CM:  I don't know if he's still around, but he ended-up being a member of the Anti-Defamation League.  There are MANY pro-Israel organizations that have a political impact and conduct political business, and uh, the Anti-Defamation League is one of them, you have the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee is another one of them, and those are among the better known politcal organizations."

This software could be used in MANY, MANY different ways, and I strongly recommend that we pitch-in and buy it together for use at TIU.  Since we are in this for the long-haul, and it has many uses for our site, this is a long-term "investment" in time, energy, and valuable resources as we continue our news and activism activities.

I am willing to donate $40 to purchasing this software, AND I AM NOT WORKING NOW.  If we are serious about doing the right thing, then we need the right tools for the job.

NB:  Doing just this ONE transcript is taking me an average of one (1) hour for every 10-12 minutes of audio, and that is simply unacceptable.  There are too many dis-jointed patterns of speech and "uhs" and "uhms" and "errs" that need to be included for me to do a half-ass job and not give the flavour of the interview as it needs to be seen.  With this program, whenever TIU has something VERY big that needs to be either transcribed or written-out with speech, we will save a hell of a lot of time with a minimal cost if just 20 of us pitch-in to buy it.

I just wanted everyone to know that it looks MUCH, MUCH better in the original Word document than it does as posted here.     I have also corrected some errors in grammar and spelling since posting it, so let's keep ourselves updating the progress of this work as it is transcribed; I am done for now and I am waiting for someone else to pick-up where I have stopped.  If four (4) of us can work on separate time-frames of the audio, each of us will have spent roughly 2.5 hours each transcribing this; come to think of it, maybe all of the "uhms" and "uhs" should not be included...

LINDSEY

NB:  The way that they both spoke makes this a difficult interview to transcribe.

Not transcribing the "uh", "um" and "you know"'s is a good idea.

Also, if you slow an audio file which you are transcribing down to 1/2 speed or so in an audio editor, you will probably be able to keep up much better with the speech as you type and not have to replay as often.  Here's a link to a free program which can do this:

Thanks for interviewing Cynthia! She is one of the few, maybe only, "politicians" that I trust at this point. Simply because she asks the questions that no one else dares touch. I hope to God that she has a permanent security detail. I really can't believe that the Secret Societies haven't had her assassinated yet given her proclivity to get in their faces. I look forward to hearing the audio but I've got to get off of here and focus on a school paper. Thanks again Ognir. Thanks Lord Lindsey for the transcription so far. And thanks Eirewarrior for what you're doing. I'll be sure to post links in forums and with members of the black community whom I know to spread this.

If contrived wars or crises are planned the population needs to know who's behind it otherwise they'll fall prey to the wolves.

Quick Update on we're I am at the minute: Lost...

This software or in general any 'Voice Recogintion software' needs a clean Crystal clear voice in order to transcribe from speech to text. The software requires you to train the VRS to adapt to your voice in this case Ognirs' but the fecking audio has alot of background noise, not to mention the VRS has all these bloody Accent filters n stuff built into it which makes it ackward, as they don't help with Ognirs irish accent only US UK etc. There's also the problem of me not fully understanding audio filters/plug-ins/etc and also having Cynthia's voice there too makes it more difficult for the VRS to render the voice to text because there two to deal with and it gets confused, so to say. I'm a complete novice to this stuff. I usually get there in the end, but this ones tuff. I have alot of different ideas and ways to fix this and get it to work. I've also being using Audacity to try remove background noise and more. None of which seem to help. It'll take a bit more time, most of today tbh.

I'll give you an example of the way the text is turning out once transcribed, it's all garbled and complete nonsense

Example:
Quotewelcome you see you radially on Thursday 13 okay I know I will show you very very interesting manager one and I only got to get the ones who Gotshal joined autoantibody term Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney suggest welcomes additional converted argument of tongues mover and I could Congresswoman adjudicative pleasure in 17 minutes on and over all topics outhitting choo-choo finance and Eichner will and I consider criminals megamerger

So as you can see I've a bit of work to do yet, to say the least. Might be helpful to get the original file off ognir's voice recorder [*.dds/*.dss] or something like that, before it was converted to *.MP3 format. Anyway I'm going to keep trying, Will keep you posted.

Cheers

My voice is crystal-clear in spoken-word.  Contact me via Skype and let's get this done.  I repeat the entire interview as it is said and then the transcriber program will do the written work.  I'll send you my details so we can try this out.
