Being Savage # 37

several readings that question the "antiquity" of China
Some China music for my friend Shaman Said

I am in the process currently of asking friends to find me pre 1950's photo's of the Great Wall, especially from street vendor and antique shops in china

here are some I found online

The following is from a 1893 book. It is an illustration of a picture taken by the author, but alas the photographs disappeared and no one knows where they went to.

now here is another drawing from a 1901 book. you will notice that it is a drawing of the original drawing from the 1893 book

It looks like a photo, but on closer inspection it appears to be a truncated duplicate of the original - just 20 years later - "notice the birds" in both

now here is another picture from the 1893 book

and another from the 1901 book

and so on and so forth

I am still searching, but it doesn't look good for the "old" great wall

If you disagree or have comments on the information I would love to discuss it.

Funny looks like the Russian cut and past holocaust pictures. It is difficult to say without the originals but these photos just don't look real to me or at least something is off.

A time life photo from 1920's of great wall

some photo's around ww2 peiod

is there some good reason the audio sounds like this?
what's the problem here?
what's the buzzing?

you have a wonderful show
and I very much enjoyed this episode
but I had to turn down my bass all the way to hear it
I'll try to clean up the file so others can enjoy it
I complained because I was working my way through the episodes on my iPod
and I was distressed at the sound of this particular one
but show is wonderful in content

I am especially amused by the "skipping" record sound
when you find something someone says very upsetting
and the "That's Incredible" clip for the same reason.

kolnidre

The linguistic references towards the beginning of the show are suspect, much like those of the monolinguist "Jordan Maxwell."

"Hun" in Chinese is a polysyllabic word, xiong nu, and does not sound like either "Hun" or "Khan."

I don't trust anything we've been told, so anything's possible and I find these ideas fascinating and worth looking into.

Can you provide some footnotes to your sources?

As for the wall, I know of a Ming text that describes a battle of 1556 in which the Chinese repelled a Mongol invasion from atop it. I could provide the email address of an independent Great Wall scholar if you would like to consult him. PM me.
