I watched most of the Presidential press conference tonight and thought I'd share my rough notes.

It was on health care reform...

The main line is that the US can't continue the way it handles health care now.

Premiums continue to go up (called it "health care inflation") and insurance companies are still making profits in these times...

Barry looked kind of rough to me... I think I could see it through the make-up...

He says he will NOT sign a bill that raises the deficit and ALSO doesn't decrease overall costs.

Americans pay thousands more per individual for HC than any other country (gouging/over pricing/greed, medications are sold in other countries for a fraction of what the American pays).

They will be eliminating "wasteful" HC and "things that don't make Americans healthier."

He really acted like he and the rest cared. Several times Barry mentioned the letters he's getting and claims to be reading...and caring... He gave a couple anecdotals about a couple Americans...

Wants to alleviate (already ridiculous) costs to middle-class (still exist?) and provide for those without coverage.

I couldn't believe it that when he was talking about lowering costs he mentioned prevention and wellness! What was really funny was when he later insinuated a nutritionist could be a way of avoiding health issues and the need of treatment. Nutritionist?! Imagine that, Americans in tent cities...

"I wanna cover everybody..." "...this is not a game for Americans."

Tax increase for the rich as a result of the reform...

When mentioning various treatments he mentioned mammograms ("screening" that is damaging, suspected in helping breast cancer develop, they love those).

He hinted at improving ethics, without saying so, on the part of "professionals" and HC providers in respect to patient "care" and diagnosis (not taking full advantage of them, doing whatever makes the most $).

Says he entered with a $1.3 trillion deficit and an outlook of $9.3 trillion. Claims his overall moves so far will save the US $2.2 trillion now with a $7.1 outlook. Right...

The last presumably pre-arranged question was one on a bit of a race issue...a lil' jab for the viewers... It was on this story: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog ... hael-white

It's funny how he says they want to lower costs and provide health care to all Americans, yet he cannot and will not sign a reform that worsens the bottom line on the deficit.

I just couldn't help but think about how much of a sharade it was.
How many Americans were out there actually thinking Obama cares and they're trying to do what's best for them?
Sad bunch.

Seriously, the reality is if anybody really cared, the formerly mighty USA would have provided HC for it's people for free long ago. And they're going to get it NOW?

If anything, it will undoubtedly be minimal with strings attached.

QuoteAP: In trying to rally support for health care overhaul, Obama described a patient who sees a physician for a sore throat, or a parent who brings in a child with a sore throat.

"Right now, doctors a lot of times are forced to make decisions based on the fee payment schedule that's out there. ... The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, 'You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid's tonsils out,'" Obama told a prime-time news conference.

The president added: "Now, that may be the right thing to do, but I'd rather have that doctor making those decisions just based on whether you really need your kid's tonsils out or whether it might make more sense just to change; maybe they have allergies. Maybe they have something else that would make a difference."

Now I know that they aren't menorahs, but the lamps around the press conference room outside the oval office resemble them; especially when the conference is rolling and there's two of them on each side of him in the background....

I'm thinking not coincidental...?
