Basseem

I arrived in Ramallah today best team was shot.  He was shot at the demonstration that was held every Friday in the village of Beil'in, which is on The Wall, in the way of The Wall, that is destroying the land of the villagers.  And every Friday, the IDF come to the demonstrations.  And every Friday, they toss tear gas canisters at the demonstrators.  And every Friday they shoot at them with rubber bullets.

But this particular Friday, Basseem, who was really the natural leader in the village, a young man 25 or so,  came up to the IDF and said "Please stop doing this.  There are children here, and old people."

And so in response the soldiers fired a tear gas canister directly at him and hit him in the heart.  You can see the picture- you can connect to it from my website on the page call Basseem - and you can see him clutch his heart.  This is not unusual.  70% of the injuries that the IDF inflict on the Palestinians are to the head or the upper body.  In other words, it is a shoot to kill policy.  So that was the story of Basseem.  It's safe to use his real name now, because he's dead.
