Press releases have been issued by the Icelandic citizens group InDefence to clarify the international news stories which display seriously flawed journalism, as usual. None of the three governments involved do anything about it.

"There has been considerable confusion in the international media about the implications of a refusal from the Icelandic President to sign a legislative bill that introduces new terms to the so-called Icesave agreement. Some journalists have reported that Iceland would thereby refuse to pay the British and Dutch governments the €3.91 billion needed to settle the dispute. This is factually incorrect." (January 4th press release)

In Defence of Iceland (InDefence) is a grassroots organisation founded in October 2008 by a group of Icelanders with close ties to the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. InDefence was founded to protest the use of the Anti-Terrorism Act by the British Government against Iceland. In 2009 the organisation started a petition to stop the Icelandic government's decision to let the citizens of Iceland pay back the entire amount lost by savers in Icesave before a criminal investigation had determined who was responsible, and how much they were able to contribute. indefence.is
