Martin Luther's Epic Bout of Diarrhea

Martin Luther didn't like the Jews very much. At first he was concerned for them and enthused at the prospect of converting them to Christianity. But one day that all changed. In 1528 Martin Luther reported an epic bout of diarrhea brought on by the consumption of kosher food.

  Because of this Luther decided that he'd refer to the Jews as "poisoned, envenomed worms." A "base, whoring people, who are no people of God, and their boats of lineage, circumcision, and law must be accounted as filth." Luther wrote that they are "full of the devil's feces... which they wallow in like swine," and that the synagogue was an "incorrigible whore and an evil slut." He argues that their synagogues and schools be set on fire, their prayer books destroyed, rabbis forbidden to preach, homes razed, and property and money confiscated. They should be shown no mercy or kindness, afforded no legal protection, and these "poisonous envenomed worms" should be drafted into forced labor or expelled for all time.
