US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen

The most senior US military commander foresees a prolonged offensive in southern Afghanistan describing Taliban resistance 'stiffer than expected.

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen declared that he expected a stiffer resistance in the major US-led military campaign to clear parts of the Helmand province from Taliban control, consequently prolonging the on-going offensive.

"The efforts against the Taliban are messy and incredibly wasteful, as is war in general. But that doesn't mean it's not worth the cost," the top American military officer told reporters at the Pentagon on Monday.

Mullen claimed that the battle and the broader war can be won with the proper resources and strategy. "As you've all been seeing, we're making steady, if perhaps a bit slower than anticipated, progress," he said cautiously.

Mullen also claimed 'regret' for a recent NATO airstrike that killed Afghan civilians.

US and NATO generals and military officers have earlier expressed regret over the loss of civilian lives in Afghanistan, but amid the growing toll inflected on civilians by the US-led offensives, there is little evidence that serious measures are taken to prevent or reduce such casualties.

At least 27 civilians, among them four women and one child, were killed on Sunday when NATO jets targeted a convoy of cars filled with fleeing civilians from the war zone in the southern Uruzgan province.

Those killed were in three minibuses, driving along a main road in the mountainous province.

The attack was the deadliest on civilians in the past six months and prompted yet another sharp rebuke from the Afghan government. It comes as NATO struggles in winning public support for 'Operation Moshtarak' which involves a force of up to 15,000 British, American, Canadian and Afghan troops and seeks to win control over Marjah, a town of 80,000 that is considered a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province.

Of course it is...The Afghanis are fighting for their people and their way of life!
The NATO forces are fighting for some nebulous goal that, in the end, only benefits Israel.

That's right Scorpio, whenever I hear of the  "American Empire" .... I think of the "Jew Bankrupt and Ripoff Empire" with an American sticker on it.  These Wars benefit Jewry and only Jewry and their idiot Puppets in the US. Once these facts become "clear" it all becomes crystal clear...
After the Revolution of 1905, the Czar had prudently prepared for further outbreaks by transferring some $400 million in cash to the New York banks, Chase, National City, Guaranty Trust, J.P.Morgan Co., and Hanover Trust. In 1914, these same banks bought the controlling number of shares in the newly organized Federal Reserve Bank of New York, paying for the stock with the Czar\'s sequestered funds. In November 1917,  Red Guards drove a truck to the Imperial Bank and removed the Romanoff gold and jewels. The gold was later shipped directly to Kuhn, Loeb Co. in New York.-- Curse of Canaan
