Ry Dawson just delivered the most brilliant articulation and breakdown of contemporary society and the cognitive disassociative sheep who incorporate and wallow in it. Fantastic, a MUST read.

Story:
You Are Not What You Own

We are suffering from a disease. Offshore slavery, sweat shops, exploited labor, insider trading, profiteering, dept slavery, predatory lending, avoidable starvation, and a blind eye to the rape, theft, murder, and torture of the Third World are kept afloat by a steady combination of consumerism and sticking our heads in the sand. No one cares about people; not like they care about shiny things. Our nation judges its well being by the stock market or its billionaire companies and not on the welfare of the general public, our physical and psychological well being. Humanity is under the boot of the mighty dollar because of its association with self-worth. C

eleb-head, fashion conscious, herds scramble for the monthly slick magazines of plastic people 500 hundred self ranking quizzes, 400 g-spot articles, and cartoon symboled horoscopes vaguely about themselves like junkies so desperate for attention and direction that any superstition will do. Daily fed pop-star trash, voyeuristic reality shows, and talk-show gossip fill the ears with utter nonsense distraction, and behind every shiny smiling buy my stuff billboard are unmentioned grave stones, and countless victims of imperialism. Give us this day our daily beautiful person with troubles. Ratings demand diva dramas not news about the world. We only feed the pigs slop, and why not? After all they keep eating it. You get what you deserve by taking whatever is offered. Macho man vehicles, business bitch bravo, show everyone how much you paid. It's not just the immoral, profit-at-all-cost corporations to blame, it's (you) the public, the consumers, for purchasing all their worthless hype and propaganda demands. Can't handle the pressure, don't worry doctor spend more has some psychotropic pills for you to pop and with luck hook you on for life. -Ry

By mixing esteem with consumerism our culture does not just buy for function and comfort, it buys for material validation; it buys to impress and gain status. Jealous people covet the jealousy of others. Prestige is often the acquisition of envy from others. It has gone way out of control. Too many people are caught in the game of 'look at me.' And it is a massive game, a contest of control and captivation of the potential audience.

People buy books that they don't even read, just for show. People will buy a piano for their house when no one even plays. People buy to impress. They buy for status. They need 'other based

Agreed. And it goes well with the article posted on brainwashing and the media.

That's not a new piece, but it's well worth reading and digesting in full. I'd been reading Ry's stuff for a while already, but when I came across that essay it became beyond question for that Ry has a pure and sincere heart and sees through the bullshit. A shill could never write something that good (not that I've ever thought of Ryan as a shill - just contrasting him and the shills).

Whatever, seeing the tree but not the forest, to which I called brilliant. You know it takes much less effort to just let little crap like that go, otherwise it looks like you're trolling and shitting on people's work just for the sake of being annoying.

Sorry HHQ, but I will have to dissent from your view to a slight degree on this one. :D  If something looks wrong, call it out.  As happened in the rabbi pedophilia article, when something is wrong in an article it can lend to discredit it.  It does help to provide sources for polls and such, but it's bothersome and time consuming to go try and find sources for things you have read in your life (months or years ago).  That's not to say this article is not great.  I enjoyed it very much, and would have to disagree with Nibs about how he "could go on" to show the bullshit, and it is not "just another mediocre opinion", it is much more.  That's bullshit to say those things and it does look like nit-picking behavior.  I recall an article some time ago about the subject of people reading books, I don't remember the exact stats but it dealt with a 10 year period of reading I think.  Memory fuzzy :(

One thing I would have to disagree with as it seems far to high is:
"1 out of 4 women will be raped before they die"

I would like to know where this comes from, as 25% of women surely do not get raped.  That's my perception.

It's still pretty darn brilliant despite this perceived error I see.

I still stand by my statements, there's a way to positively disagree and contribute or just summarily and subjectively toss the baby out with the bathwater, which is what I was calling out.

Does that sound like throwing the baby out with the bath water? Don't put words in my mouth just because you have a comprehension problem.

I enjoyed this article very much.  It's true.  Whether or not its wholly and precisely accurate.

People need to read this.  I will be sending it off.  I hope you will as well.

Yours,

Nah I think that's real, in fact it could be higher, like up to 30%.  I read a book called the "Female Solution" which also quoted it somewhere in there...

At least in the US...

you gotta think about the 100,000s of women that are in sex slavery and prostitution as well...

its actually very bad...

we don't respect women in general and of course we all know its hard to respect "sluts"

there are a lot of unresolved issues and they are age old...

I have great respect for a young adult like Ry.  He is one of the few 20-somethings I have encountered in our fight that is able to internalize a problem and communicate it with a solution to the masses.

I began noticing this same shift in society back in the 80s the decade of excess and debauchery.  I was right in line with everyone else in their 20s and 30s, but without the drugs.

Since the 90s and speaking from a woman's point of view, it's not so much the shiny things that are important now.  Women of all ages want to have the perfect, plastic Barbie body and most of them have the superficial personality to go with it.  We are now in an age where no one wants to grow old, least of all, look old.  If you're not into Botox in the women's circles, then you're no one.

I have, for the most part, lost everything that I once owned due to forces beyond my control; changes in the economy, divorce, and most recently illness.  And frankly I am glad because I would not be here at this moment sharing on this forum.  I haven't bought a celeb magazine in over five years and never will, again.  It no longer matters what movie is premiering at the end of every week, or who is going to be on some awards show.  I've gotten away from all of that.

In effect, my circumstances removed me from the confines of society and pop culture and it was the only way that I found the truth after 9/11.  That is why America has over 200 million slaves unable to grasp the reality of our dire situation.  They don't have the time or the energy, which is exactly what our controllers want.  Keep the slaves consumed with trying to stay alive and they will never be the wiser.

Damn I didn't think of it that way.  I was thinking of regular standard working class citizens that are part of the functional society.  Makes more sense now...

Ry is very intelligent, although I didn't like his Ron Paul rants. Excellent article and for those who doubt the statistics just look at the actual message of the article, statistics change but unfortunately we don't.
