What constitutes an asset of a Holocaust victim?

The Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets strives to locate legal heirs for about 60,000 various assets in Israel left by victims of the Holocaust and entrusted to the Company's administration. The Company's goal is to reinstate the assets to their legal beneficiaries in order to do justice with the victims. Assets for which no heirs are found are dedicated to aid programs for Holocaust survivors, as well as the commemoration of the Holocaust, in accordance with the Law.
The Law for Holocaust Victims' Assets defines "Assets of Holocaust Victims" as assets located in Israel whose last known beneficiary lived under the Nazi regime and it is not known if this person was alive on December 31st 1945. The general definition refers to real estate, personal belongings and rights, including monies and shares.
In addition, the Law stipulates that anyone in Israel holding assets of Holocaust victims must transfer these to the Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets, as well as linkage and interest, as determined by the Law.

The publication of the list enables family members of the victims to identify unclaimed assets belonging to their relatives and to present a request for restitution as the legal heirs of the victims.
Applications for restitution may also be presented for assets in Israel belonging to people who most likely died in the Holocaust but do not appear on the list.
