GENEVA — Switzerland will not extradite the film director Roman Polanski to the United States to face charges of unlawful sex with a minor because of a possible fault in the American application for his extradition, Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf told a news conference on Monday.

"He's a free man," she said.

Mr. Polanski was arrested on an international warrant issued by the United States on charges dating from 1977. The director fled on the eve of sentencing in California because of fear that the presiding intended to renege what his defense lawyers said was a deal to avoid a prison sentence.

Ms. Widmer-Schlumpf said the American authorities had rejected a request by her ministry for records of a hearing by the prosecutor in the case, Roger Gunson, in January 2010, which should have established whether the judge who tried the case in 1977 had assured Mr. Polanski that time he spent in a psychiatric unit would constitute the whole of the period of imprisonment he would serve.

"If this were the case, Roman Polanski would actually have already served his sentence and therefore both the proceedings on which the U.S. extradition request is founded and the request itself would have no foundation," the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement.

Swiss authorities jailed Mr. Polanski, the Polish-born filmmaker, in Zurich in September 2009 in response to the American warrant but in December allowed him to move to his chalet in the ski resort of Gstaad under house arrest on bail of $4.5 million pending a decision on his extradition. Mr. Polanski's French lawyer, Georges Kiejman, hailed the Swiss government's decision for concluding Mr. Polanski's "long ordeal," and said he would be able return to his home and family in France.

"I pay tribute to Swiss justice, its judicial analysis is very correct," Mr. Kiejman told Agence France-Presse.

A spokeswoman for the United States Justice Department declined to comment Monday on Switzerland's decision.

This case makes no sense whatsoever. I sometimes wonder if it is intended to make no sense to confuse people about who really runs things.

Polanski got away with his statutory rape or 'pedophilia'  (he screwed a post-pubescent 13 year old after giving her drugs and alcohol, and if he had been 16 years old then it would only be 'date rape,'  so if you call that pedophilia then what do you call screwing pre-pubescent six year olds, super-perverted- pedophilia? ) by moving to France where at that time you could get married at 15. He brags about screwing Nastassia Kinski and her lookalike best friend at 15 both at the same time in a menage-a-trois, according to his own autobiography "Roman," used to vacation in Switzerland and Austria all the time and kept on screwing high school girls all over Europe every chance he got. Nobody bothered him and noboby cared, they were apparently all over 15 years old and it was all good times,  then all of a sudden 33 years later, they decide to bust his ass?  <WTF>

What could possibly happen to change events so drastically?  Why did the Jew-owned world-wide press give this 33 year old case so much publicity? Basically, what did Polanski do to piss off his masters for them to throw him to the wolves?  There's no way in hell that this is 'the gentiles of the world somehow being able to finally administer Justice to a famous Jew artist." Who the hell is this 'U.S.' asking Switzerland to extradite Polanski?  The U.S.?  We all know that if the Jews wanted to kill this story and release Polanski back to France, it would be done in a heartbeat and you would never hear a peep about it again. But no!  It's a big, gigantic media circus even if the girl, Samantha Geimer (jewish ? )

no longer wants to press charges and has forgiven the Pervy Pole.

. . . and now they release him back to France, so what did the whole charade accomplish?  It was a hundred percent orchestrated from above. The big shots probably sat around a table puffin' cigars and said: hey, we need the goyim to think that there's still some justice left in this Jew world order while we're cooking them slowly like froggies, so let's screw that Polanski guy over a little bit over there, he's having too much fun, he thinks he's untouchable since he made that movie for us a few years ago? He'll have to be our patsy for a while.  We won't really prosecute him, since he made that good little holycost movie for us that we gave him the oscar for, we'll just cut him down to size a little bit. We'll dump his story all over our media  and make the dumb goyim argue his case back and forth and mostly condemn his actions from 33 years ago and think some justice is being done. Then after we get enough publicity out of it we'll snap our fingers and refuse his extradition and send him back to France.  This way we will fool the goyim twofold: give them false hope that there's still some justice left in the world and destroy that hope simultaneously and re-confirm our power when we release our boy.  Let the circus commence !!
