QuoteIsrael rejects the conditions set for a ceasefire between Hamas and the regime accusing the resistance movement of playing for time.

"Hamas's truce offer is intended to buy time for rearming," an official Israeli spokesman was quoted by the Israeli website Arutz Sheva as saying on Friday. David Baker, Israel's senior coordinator for foreign media, claimed the group's offer "was not a sincere one."

He claimed that there would be no need for Israeli incursions into Gaza and the West Bank if the group halted attacks against Israeli targets.

The Israeli official vowed to continue military operations inside the coastal enclave.

Egypt has been trying to broker a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Hamas says any truce agreement should include the West Bank as well as the Gaza Strip and the blockade on the costal strip should be lifted.

Following the take over of the Gaza Strip by Hamas in June 2007, Israel toughened the embargoes imposed by the West and the regime after the movement came to power in a democratic election.

The sanctions have created a humanitarian crisis in the densely populated area and deprived Palestinians of access to vital services and supplies.
