Hey guys do you think it would be possible to adopt a naming standard?

I like to archive stuff and with everything being named diffrentley it is
hard to put things in a cronological order, you can see this by visiting

http://theinfounderground.com/archives/

i would suggest putting the date prior to any other information in the
filename

e.g

Current naming

TiRadio with Prothink 17th March 2008.mp3
TIU Radio 6-4-2008 - Ug99 Eugenocide.mp3

Suggested naming   YYYYMMDD_FILENAME.mp3

20080317_TiRadio_with_Prothink.mp3
20080406_TIU_Radio_Ug99_Eugenocide.mp3

this way all files would appear in date order if archived

anyway, great shows guys and keep up the good work

peace

I have mentioned a similar naming scheme but it appears to have been forgotten:

'TIU Radio yyyy-mm-dd description.mp3'

eg.
TIU Radio 2008-05-20 Guest Raynard Smith.mp3

I explained this before on skype, it's to sort the files.

I agree with JSE.  If you have a naming convention then your mp3's will sort in an order of relevance.

My problem is I hate the American numbering system mm/dd/yy and that's one of the reasons I use 12th July etc.

However, do as you please Az

I recommend "TiU.080319.The Info Underground.Hosts - Ognir.Topic - Zionazis.Guests - None.mp3" it is very logical and makes any future web or database integration very much easier. Any regexp object can parse it into all the useful parts for later analysis.

I was going to make a sort in the array when I look up the folder so that they are all nice and ordered.  To do this, it works best if they are uniform in characters at the beginning with a numeric date.  There can be spaces, or no spaces, it doesn't really matter.  Here are some examples:

20080715.TIURadio.Description
TIU.2008-07-15.Description
2008 07 15 Description

Why the the complete date?  It more easily identifiable in looking at it.  You start with the year, then the month, then the day.  I too dislike very much the illogical day month year American standard that is based on verbally describing the day like 'Monday the 5th of June, 2008'.  It works fine for verbal description, but when writing it as a number the best way is either yyyy mm dd or dd mm yyyy.  When you don't have the year in 4 digits it requires additional analysis using your eyes and brain to determine where the year is.  No it is not hard to determine, takes a second or whatever, but it's much easier on the analysis by using a complete 4 digit year.

So those are my reasons why a date with yyyymmdd is best.

So whatever naming scheme is chosen, it needs to be used every time and kept.  If for instance a show is made and the naming scheme is different and a posts is made here and at WUFYS for that specific show with that incorrect naming scheme, then it can't be changed because people will get a bad link if they try to download it from the post if the name was changed to the correct scheme after the initial posting.

I initially proposed 'TIU Radio yyyy-mm-dd Description' as that was how I was renaming them.  But anything can be used, just use a complete date is what I recommend as the three examples above also have, and to use it before the description of the show.  No spaces is the best method as well, but it doesn't matter as long as it is always used the same way.  So I will recommend this scheme:

'TIURadio.2008-07-15.Description'

It sticks to a meme that is currently used by Og:  show date description but in a different format.

After I see that a particular scheme is being used then I can go and rename the files in the archive that are currently there.  But I won't do it before I see it being used, as to make the change on the existing files and have the new ones not match up would be pointless.  So pick a scheme and stick with it and all will be automatically sorted when a new file is added :)

Peace.

Though we aren't well know among the average Goyim now, one must take into account that in the future people will do Jewgle searches for our MP3s. That's why I recommend that we include "The Info Underground" in the filename. If someone somehow gets one of our audios, they'll still be able to trace it back to the source.

Good point.

'InfoUnderground.2008-07-15.Description'

;)

'TheInfoUnderground.2008-07-15.Description.mp3' because alot of computer illiterates just type names into the address field of the browser.

Ok I'll try to be good with the next show
