In an interview with GQ, she claimed that in 1995 Gibson called her an "oven-dodger", in reference to the gas chambers that Nazis used to kill millions of Jews during the Holocaust.

"I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And he was really drunk," Ryder, 39, told the magazine.

"I was with my friend, who's gay. [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke," she said. "And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about 'oven dodgers,' but I didn't get it. I'd never heard that before."

Ryder, who was born Winona Horowitz, is half Jewish and in the past has revealed that many of her relatives died in the Holocaust.

A spokesman for Gibson refused to comment.

The allegations come weeks before Gibson's new film The Beaver, about a man in the middle of an emotional crisis, is released.

Gibson's reputation has suffered over the past few years after a string of racist and homophobic outbursts.

Earlier this year he was recorded hurling abuse at his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, allegedly calling her "a pig in heat" and saying that her clothes invited rape.

The foul-mouthed tirades came after the Oscar-winner was arrested in California in 2006 after he was caught drink driving.

Gibson, a devout Catholic, was alleged to have told the police officer that stopped him: "******* Jews. The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."

After the Revolution of 1905, the Czar had prudently prepared for further outbreaks by transferring some $400 million in cash to the New York banks, Chase, National City, Guaranty Trust, J.P.Morgan Co., and Hanover Trust. In 1914, these same banks bought the controlling number of shares in the newly organized Federal Reserve Bank of New York, paying for the stock with the Czar\'s sequestered funds. In November 1917,  Red Guards drove a truck to the Imperial Bank and removed the Romanoff gold and jewels. The gold was later shipped directly to Kuhn, Loeb Co. in New York.-- Curse of Canaan

This is bullshit. Gibson is a likely a Holocaust denier, therefore, as a denier, he wouldn't believe in the existence of gas chambers. So, why would anyone make a joke about something they dont believe ever existed?

TimPat, think you're right.  Mel would be incensed at the use of the BIG LIE to extort money and sympathy.  He probably called her "the Artful Dodger" for her shoplifting proclivity (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-539789/Sticky-fingers-Winona-Ryder-new-shoplifting-scandal-claims-magazine.html).

QuoteA shopping trip has put Winona Ryder in the news again (2008).

The 36-year-old actress was spotted leaving a Hollywood store with make-up on her that she hadn't paid for, according to a US report.

Actress Winona made headlines six years ago, when at the peak of her career she was convicted of shoplifting £3,000 worth of clothing from a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

Now in a new incident, according to America's National Enquirer magazine, the Girl Interrupted star recently set off the security alarm at Hollywood CVC Pharmacy after making several purchases.

According to the publication, when she left the store, she set off an alarm that drew the attention of a security guard.
A store employee is quoted as saying: "Winona had a bag of stuff, but she set off the theft alarm when she left the store.
"When a security guard stopped her, he found make-up she had not paid for."

And when she was asked about the make-up, Winona answered: "I don't know how that happened." <:^0

The store employee added: "We took unpaid items back and she left the store."

Winona's publicist at first denied the incident took place. But when told a store employee had confirmed it, said she would check with her again.  <:^0

In Winona's past shoplifting scandal back in 2002, she claimed as part of her defence that she stole from a Beverly Hills store to prepare for a film role.  <:^0

But the court found her guilty, and she was sentenced to three years probation and 480 hours of community service.

Would you feel guilty if you shoplifted from corporate America? In Winona Ryder's first interview on that fateful day in 2001 at the Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, she says that she really didn't.

"I didn't have this tremendous sense of guilt, because I hadn't hurt anyone. Had I physically harmed someone or caused harm to a human being, I think it would have been an entirely different experience."

Well, she didn't kill someone, but stealing technically does cause harm someone who's trying to run a business.

But the million-dollar question after all of these years is why a famous, wealthy woman would actually steal. She blames it on painkillers that she got from a "quack" doctor.

"Two months prior to that, I broke my arm in two places, and the doctor, a sort of quack doctor, was giving me a lot of stuff and I was taking it at first to get through the pain. And then there was this weird point when you don't know if you are in pain but you're taking it."

The painkillers left her in a state of "confusion" But the arrest was a blessing in disguise because she never touched those pills again. She moved to San Francisco to be close to her parents and kept a low profile until now. She's apparently gearing up for her three movie releases this year: Ten, Sex and Death 101, and The Last Word.

Well, I welcome back Winona. She's done the classy thing and stayed on the down-low for years. Imagine that in the young Hollywood world we live in. You've got to admire that.
