QuoteIsraeli military officials have warned that Syria may retaliate for Israel's bombing of a Syrian site after the recent US accusations.

The United States had earlier alleged that a Syrian site bombed by Israeli warplane last September was a nuclear reactor which was being constructed with North Korea's help.

Damascus, however, immediately denied the allegations, calling them "a ridiculous story".

Citing senior military sources, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Friday that the Syrians may now decide to retaliate against Israel in some way.

They claimed that the official American accusations would make Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to take a more aggressive stance toward Israel.

The accusations were made at a time that tension is high between Israel and Syria and analysts believe Tel Aviv is making a case against Damascus to wage another war in the region.

Syria says the bombed site was a deserted military building and had nothing to do with a clandestine nuclear program.
