New revelations in attack on American spy ship; Chicago Tribune December 2, 2013

QuoteIncludes this following tidbit, which is amazing that it was allowed to be printed at all.

There are also apparent omissions in the inquiry's report. It does not include, for example, the testimony of a young lieutenant, Lloyd Painter, who was serving as officer of the deck when the attack began. Painter said he testified that an Israeli torpedo boat "methodically machine-gunned one of our life rafts" that had been put over the side by crewmen preparing to abandon ship.

Painter, who spent 32 years as a Secret Service agent after leaving the Navy, charged that his testimony about the life rafts was purposely omitted.

Quote"They tried to lie their way out of it!" Lockwood shouts. "I don't believe that for a minute! You just don't shoot at a ship at sea without identifying it, making sure of your target!"

I was around 10 years old when this attack happened and vividly remember my mother telling me "take off that eye patch he (Moshe Dayan) is a evil man". thus the start of my jewise education.lol

I was 12 years old and in the 8th Grade in Catholic school when the '6 Day War Started'.

The USS Liberty was attacked on about the 4th day of the war.

When the war started, it was a slow day in school, as we were finishing up the term and getting ready for summer vacation.

Our teacher, who was a nun, came into the classroom and told us that a war had started in the Middle East, and we should 'pray for the poor Jews'...I really had no political opinions as such, but I was very interested in history...The last time a nun had come into a classroom with any kind of political announcement was when JFK had been shot four years previously...On this occasion, the sister brought a TV into the classroom, so we could watch news updates...As I said, our studies and tests were mostly finished, so we watched the TV news...Everybody else in the class just stated fooling around, but I was fascinated.

The whole 6 Day War was prompted by Egyptian President Nasser ordering UN peace keeping troops out of the Sinai, and then announcing a blockade of Israeli shipping in the Gulf of Aqaba, the port of Eilat, which was the only Israeli port leading to the Indian ocean...Israelis were not permitted to use the Suez Canal.

There is much debate now whether Nasser was actually a traitor, setting up his own country for defeat...The result of the war was Israel destroying most of the Egyptian air force on the ground, and then sweeping across the Sinai.

Israel also captured Jerusalem from a combined Jordanian and Palestinian force, and took effective control of the West Bank.

The Israelis then attacked Syria, just after they hit the Liberty, and went on to occupy the Golan Heights, which they do to this day.

Dayan became a big 'hero' to some...However, if you read about Dayan, you will see that he was in many ways actually less radical than what came after him, and the real story of what happened during the war is complex...The Israelis took the Temple Mount, but Dayan said 'No' to keeping it under Jewish control, and gave it back to the Arabs...Most 'right wing' Jews hated Dayan.
