18-Language DVD Puts WTC Evidence Before the World

Mike Cook and Sandra Jelmi

Editor's Note: The Translation Team is always looking to add to its current list of supported languages. If you can help us translate into a language that we have not yet covered, or would like to join one of our existing language teams, your help would be greatly appreciated. Sign up to volunteer now!

Just in time for the upcoming 12th anniversary of 9/11, AE911Truth is proud to announce the release of the International Edition of "9/11: Explosive Evidence – Experts Speak Out." This DVD includes subtitles to allow non-English-speaking viewers to learn about the myth-shattering World Trade Center evidence from more than 40 technical and building professionals.

While the original version of Experts Speak Out was making waves a few months ago, a quiet group of volunteers around the world worked together to produce an International version, which has subtitles in no less than 18 languages. This is quite a feat, given that most producers of documentaries do not offer such a vast choice of languages, despite having more resources available.

"Experts Speak Out International" is now available in DVD format for millions of people whose first tongue is other than English. It has subtitles in Arabic, Bahasa (Indonesian), Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, and English (for the hearing impaired).

The way we see it, truth knows no borders, and the volunteers in the AE911Truth Translation Team know that the repercussions of 9/11 have affected people everywhere, with ripple effects that don't stop with any particular country or nationality. Getting the message out in every possible language has thus become crucially important, and working on this project has been a high priority for everyone involved.

In place of the bonus disk "Meet the Experts," which showcases 50 special-cut interviews with each of the experts. Experts Speak Out International includes AE911Truth's most popular short DVD, Solving the Mystery of WTC 7, which has received more than a million hits on YouTube and features actor Ed Asner, who is a strong supporter of 9/11 Truth.

In a perfect world, other languages would also have made it onto the DVD. One language in particular, Mandarin Chinese, is regrettably absent. This is all the more unfortunate because AE911Truth's first documentary, 9/11: Blueprint for Truth, also has a version with Chinese subtitles. (See our YouTube channel for several of these translations.).

If new translators come forward, an expanded "Experts Speak Out International" is a future possibility. We would love to add Urdu and Farsi, as well as Mandarin, to our stable of languages.

The composition of our language teams varies tremendously. Some teams are quite large, especially for popular languages such as Spanish. Our smaller teams, with only one or two people, make up for their small numbers with unwavering commitment and they often work faster than the larger teams.

Overall, the Translation Team is one of AE911Truth's most vital and productive groups. It originated in 2007 and has grown ever since. More than 80 translators have contributed in the last seven years, each one of them motivated by the same desire – getting the truth out in a particular language.

Ashraf Assem, a longtime Arabic translator, sums it up: "When a good friend approached me to participate in AE911Truth, I accepted enthusiastically. I believe that people should learn the truth about what really happened, including those who don't speak fluent English." From day one, volunteers have worked on dozens of projects such as videos, documentaries, articles, and brochures.

Currently, about 50 translators can spring into action at a moment's notice. The main coordinators – Sandra Jelmi of Montreal, Canada, and Wibren Visser of Linz, Austria (our core team coordinator, who is of Dutch descent) – work closely with the individual language coordinators, who, in turn, are responsible for overseeing translations in their languages.

Video clips have been the main focus of translated material, ranging in length from just a couple of minutes (e.g., the popular David Chandler set) to a couple of hours. Our YouTube playlist of translated videos has expanded impressively, now covering 25 languages in all.

The first big AE911Truth translation project was its seminal documentary, 9/11: Blueprint for Truth: The Architecture of Destruction. The 60-minute Companion Edition was originally translated into five different languages, and made available as a DVD in PAL format in order to make it more accessible to Europeans in Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Dutch. It was an ambitious project, simply because most translations were performed in voiceover form. The European Edition of 9/11: Blueprint for Truth contains translations in Chinese, Japanese, Finnish, and five other languages and is available for download. As with Experts Speak Out International, we look forward to adding new languages to the 9/11: Blueprint for Truth spectrum.

There are significant challenges involved in coordinating volunteers who are scattered around the globe in different time zones. Surprisingly, language itself is not the barrier that one might assume it would be. Although inter-team communication is performed in English, Wibren Visser says it even helps foreign language speakers improve their English! Given the highly technical terminology of the material, every translation is proofread and approved by the language coordinator (frequently a professional freelance translator).

Translation projects are determined by the core team, then sent to the individual language coordinators, who, in turn, select particular translators on their teams. This selection depends on the size of the project, who is currently available, and how much time they have. Once approved by the coordinator, Heimo Koch (also from Austria) turns the text into subtitles and uploads the clip to YouTube under the appropriate language playlist.

In the case of a DVD production, the subtitles are sent to Chuck Smith, a retired professional Hollywood sound editor who has worked on almost 70 movies, including such noteworthy projects as "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs." Needless to say, he has become quite proficient in dealing with exotic alphabets by now, but he always turns to the coordinators to get fonts approved. "After all," he siad, "we want to make sure that I didn't choose a font that is inappropriate, such as a Wild West equivalent!"

Translation is an arduous process that takes a considerable amount of time. Yet, everyone shows remarkable enthusiasm for the work and loving devotion to the team and its varied projects while sharing a steadfast confidence that their efforts will pay off – and truth and justice will prevail. Says Spanish translator Kornelia Schneider, "I dearly hope that a real 9/11 investigation will be performed soon."

The possible repercussions are not lost on anyone: By affixing their names to the credits, some translators may expose themselves to the risks of losing their jobs or not being considered when applying for a position. Every translator is free to use an alias or even remain anonymous, but volunteers are encouraged to provide their real names – and most of them do. Says Alberto Medici, a member of the Italian team, "On the contrary, I believe that I must put my signature – and my face – on everything I do. This is the best way to show that we don't fear anyone, and we contribute to the world's awakening – which is taking place at an incredible speed!"

Chuck Smith, the only American aboard this seaworthy translation ship, says that he loves the team and is profoundly moved by the cheerful motivation and dedication of this incredible group of people from all over the world. "It's stunning, absolutely stunning, how AE911Truth has affected everyone," he said. Smith and all of us at AE911Truth are profoundly grateful and deeply moved by the inspirational outpouring of support we are receiving from all over the world. "Our Translation Team is, in my opinion, the highest functioning and most well-oiled, precision machine that we have," said Chuck, "and their work is absolutely invaluable." Experts Speak Out International is the end result of the dedication, devotion, and disciplined work of many people, the vast majority of whom have never even met each other.

Newton's law of motion states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and that's the principle that we use to refute the official explanation of how the Twin Towers and Building 7 came down. The same principle can be applied to the people who are coming out in support of 9/11 Truth. The ugliness of 9/11 is producing an equal and opposite reaction among good people everywhere who want to do their part in exposing the lies. It doesn't come without sacrifice, or without risk, but the volunteers understand that if nobody speaks up, if nobody gets the word out, and if an impartial investigation is not obtained, then the world may suffer even far greater injustices. Our translators know that they must succeed. Failure to get the facts to people all around the world is not an option.
