Horror crash: Two people were killed and several injured after a tourist train was hit by a boulder in the French Alps

Yesterday a train frequently used by tourists was derailed by a single
falling rock with the size of a SUV. The train was traveling with a
predetermined speed of 30 km/h, according to speed regulations. The slope
of descent was at least 45o, which would make the location an excellent
opportunity for a assassination attack. 2 people were killed and 9
injured.

   Two women were killed on Saturday, including a Russian tourist 49 years
   and a resident of 82 years old, in the spectacular famous train
   derailment Pignes region, caused by the fall of a rock weighing several
   tons, nearly Annot (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

   "A huge rock came off the mountain and the train collided behind the
   cab. Following the impact, the front part of the train plunged into the
   ravine," said the sub-prefect of Castellane, Charbel Aboud during a
   press conference at City Hall Annot.

   The alarm was raised shortly after 11:00 by the conductor, who radioed
   the station master Annot, where he was to arrive a few minutes later.
   At the point of impact, the train left at 8:50 Nice traveling at
   reduced speed limited to 30 km / h on this stretch of line.

Her husband, also from Russia i believe, survived. So far there have
been zero witness testimonials of the surviving train passengers. The
TF1 broadcast mentions that a police recherche team from the crime
departement was doing laser guided measurements, as they are creating a
simulation video from this Boulder collision. Looking at the footage
snippets, it looks like they are using the same software as used for
the car crash of that Mercedes Benz S280 in which Princess Diana was
killed.
