Russian Air Force Launches First Airstrikes Over Palmyra: ISIS Military Installations Destroyed  0

On Monday morning, the Russian Air Force launched a series of powerful airstrikes over the Homs Governorate's eastern countryside that specifically targeted the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) inside the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra (Tadmur), destroying a number of military installations belonging to the terrorist group.

Taking advantage of the calm weather conditions around the country, the Russian Air Force capitalized on the opportunity to strike the terrorist group in the heart of the Syria's desert landscape, hitting ISIS with four powerful airstrikes along the Al-Sukanah-Palmyra Highway and inside the New City Quarter in northern Palmyra.

The primary targets for the Russian Air Force in Palmyra were the large storage facilities that the terrorist group uses to house a significant amount of their heavy weaponry and armor; these sites had not been targeted before yesterday's airstrikes.

According to a military source in the Homs Governorate, ISIS' lifeline inside Palmyra is their large supply depots that provide them the necessary provisions to resist the approaching soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF).

The Russian Air Force has proven determined to not only destroy ISIS' supply depots, but also, the terrorist group's large number of armored vehicles that are currently in their possession – the Russian Central Command is attempting to cripple terrorist group's movements around the Syrian countryside by striking their mobility.

These airstrikes on ISIS' positions in Palmyra marked the first time that the Russian Air Force has struck the terrorist group inside this ancient city; previously, the Russian Air Force carried out airstrikes around Palmyra, but never inside the city.
