(JTA) — A year after the filing of a federal civil rights complaint alleging an "unrelenting campaign of anti-Semitic harassment" at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the school is set to have a new dorm specifically for Jewish students.

Illini Chabad will run the dorm in partnership with the university, the Forward reported. The dorm, which joins a list of faith-based housing options, will have room for 32 students. The bottom floors will serve as the Chabad center and kosher dining hall.

While the dorm is meant to be a place where Shabbat and kosher observance will be easier, it is also intended to be a response to the recent spate of anti-Semitic incidents on campus.

In March 2020, the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP filed a complaint with the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights on behalf of students over an alleged [alleged] pattern of anti-Semitism, including instances of swastika graffiti, vandalism at Jewish centers, and harassment of Jewish and pro-Israel students.

The complaint was enabled by the Trump administration's 2019 decision directing the Education Department to include Jewish students in anti-discrimination protections.

In September, the school's student government passed a resolution supporting the Black Lives Matter movement that also included a call to divest from companies that do business with Israel. In November, the university said it would work with Jewish and pro-Israel students to make sure they felt safe at school.

Rabbi Dovid Tiechtel, director of Illini Chabad, told the Forward he hoped the new dorm would be a step toward making students feel safer on campus.

"If there's one place on campus you want to be comfortable, it's at least where you go to sleep at night," Tiechtel said.

Because of "rising antisemitism," the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will open the country's first university-affiliated housing option for Jewish students in the fall, reported The News-Gazette on Friday:

The Illini Chabad property, a former fraternity house, will be available to both Jewish freshmen and upperclassmen, though non-Jewish students can live there as well. It is made up of 32 two-bedroom suites, study rooms and more. Illini Chabad Executive Director Rabbi Dovid Tiechtel said plans are being finalized to build a Jewish synagogue in the building.

Residents will have kosher-meal options, housekeeping services, and a complimentary snack and beverage bar. The cost to lease a bedroom is $12,200 for August through May. Six of the rooms have already been leased, said the site's manager.

The $7.7 million funding campaign for the building included $4.8 million in donations, Tiechtel told The News-Gazette. He added that "we are excited about the whole new level we are going to create with the housing."

The news comes after two antisemitic incidents took place at the school in February and last month's announcement that the school has created an advisory council to combat antisemitism on campus.

In 2020, the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights filed a complaint with the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights against the university's handling of antisemitic activity at its school.

One of those so-called "antisemitic incidents" occurred when some students threw eggs at an Israeli flag that Jewish students had hung outside their off-campus home — a clear provocation on their part knowing full well that most liberal students generally side with the Palestinian cause in the ongoing genocide at the hands of the Israelis.

In other words, the Jew always tells you what happened to him but never tells you why, as the old Russian proverb sagely instructs us.

The other "threatening" incident occurred when someone allegedly drew a "swastika" on a "virtual drawing board" during a meeting — definitely a high-level threat that kept Jews sleepless wondering when the Gestapo was going to kick in their doors and herd them into the gas chambers.

These two incidents amounted to what lawyers representing Jews at this school in a Civil Rights lawsuit claim is an "unrelenting campaign of antisemitic harassment."

Of course, a court in France recently ruled that swastikas were not inherently antisemitic — a legal decision that no doubt sent many Jews in France to their psychiatrists for medication and reassurance that their hysteria was "real".

After all, there is an international "Nazi conspiracy" among "White supremacists" everywhere, secretly plotting a "Fourth Reich" — and every Jew must live with this fear that for no reason whatsoever, those "friendly gentiles" will one day turn on them, and steal all of their property — including the gold fillings in their teeth.

And the only way to avoid "another" Holocaust is to create Jewish "safe spaces" where they are free from their Nazi tormentors — Jewish frat houses, Jewish communities, and even their own Jewish nation.

The ultimate goal for Jewry is a world of their own, according to Maurice Samuel in his book You Gentiles:

"We Jews, we are the destroyers and will remain the destroyers. Nothing you can do will meet our demands and needs. We will forever destroy because we want a world of our own."
