Yesterday I was at a library in rural Oregon, and saw "Mike", who I've known for about 11 years.

We've talked about Gold mining (including his setting up a Mercury-based solvent system for refining Gold in his apartment building, which is very dangerous because Mercury is especially Neurotoxic when it is boiled), the local police department, a little bit about conventional US politics (he hates Democrats.)

So I asked him what he thought about the handling of Covid19, noting that it was a Bi-partisan phenomenon, since it spanned the Trump and Biden administrations.

DING DING DING DING !

No politics !

Apparently there is an un-written rule at this particular library.

The librarian is an Asian American Gay woman, who seems to feel it is her job to enforce un-written rules about Free Speech.

It was one of my first direct observations of what is called "Cancel Culture", since I usually avoid people who will engage in Cancel Culture.

I will try and get a recording of my next conversation with the librarian, if or when it occurs.

And the question is - Has it gotten worse ?
"It" being the suspension of the First Amendment.

I always thought the main objective in a library was to speak quietly, like 55 dB (a whisper) or 60 dB (library voice).

So Mike and I were speaking at about 60 dB sound levels when the Librarian's blood pressure went up.
