QuoteA US military commander claims Iran's 'irresponsible influence' in the Middle East is a 'perfect nightmare' for Israel and the region.

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen further accused Iran of undermining efforts to stabilize the region.

"Their actions, their irresponsible influence extends well beyond Iraq's borders. Their pursuit of nuclear arms, their sponsorship of terrorism -- and the perfect nightmare that is the nexus of the two -- is a threat to Israel and throughout the region," Mullen told American Jews at a gathering in Washington to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Zionist regime Thursday.

"Iran is a regional spoiler, and is bent on egregiously undermining efforts to stabilize the Middle East," the senior US military official claimed.

Mullen was echoing previous US accusations that Iran supports the spread of violence in war-ravaged Iraq - an allegation for which Washington has failed to provide any concrete evidence.

The allegation was also an attempt by the Bush administration to paint Tehran as a threat to the world peace, and prepare the public for yet another war in the oil-rich Middle East in support of the Zionist regime.

Observers believe as the so-called US war on terror has faced a 'chronic failure', the Bush administration has desperately sought to scapegoat a country over the complete fiasco.

On Thursday, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said Iran's armed forces are like a strong fortress that defends people's security and tranquility.

Referring to the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei opined that the occupiers made both places the most insecure states in the world.
