Poilievre to battle 'wokism' with 'peak woke' anti-left policies

Adopting an uber 'woke' position Pierre Poilievre wants to "defund" institutions to protect "feelings". The Conservative Party leader recently repeated his threat to defund universities that fail to suppress criticism of Israel that make Jews "uncomfortable".

On Tuesday supremacist journalist Rhonda Spivak reported: "Pierre Poilievre told the Winnipeg Jewish Review in an exclusive telephone interview Dec 18, 2024 that he will not tolerate and will 'defund' 'all of those with a woke anti-Semitic agenda' including at universities who receive federal funding, as well as all federally funded museums. He re-iterated that he plans to 'defund' all 'those who are imposing a radical, terrifying, toxic ideology' and this will apply to 'everything that the federal government controls.' He stated 'I will fire government officials throughout my administration who are imposing a toxic woke ideology.'"

On X Polievre posted the interview stating, "I will defund wokism and fight antisemitism. And stand with our friends in Israel against terror." To ensure the interview's wide circulation, the Conservative leader reposted the party's candidate in York Centre Roman Baber sharing it with the comment, "Polievre will: Crack down on terrorist networks that Trudeau allowed on Canada's streets! Cancel toxic wokism in federal institutions & fire officials who impose woke ideology. Defund anti-semitism in government & academia. Bravo Pierre!"

This isn't the first time Polievre has said he would cut university budgets to ensure Jews don't "feel uncomfortable". Two months ago, Poilievre said his government would deny federal funding to universities that "spread antisemitism or make Jews feel unsafe and uncomfortable on their campuses."

In response to Poilievre's recent post US author Anya Parampil highlighted the 'woke' nature of Poilievre's plan. She noted, "'fighting antisemitism' is playing into the most woke, ultimate victim mentality: Zionism.'" "Defunding" universities to protect Jewish students' "feelings" is peak 'woke'.

It's also wildly hypocritical. During the Conservative party leadership contest Poilievre promised a "Free Speech Guardian" to ensure universities respect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms' protection of "freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression." He's gone from proposing a free speech ombudsperson to threatening to "defund" universities that allow speech that could hurt students' "feelings".

Remarkably, there's been little push back against Poilievre's plan. The NDP doesn't seem to have responded to his flagrant attacks on academic freedom. Nor has the Canadian Association of University Teachers or Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Canada's power structure seems to support coddling Jewish Zionist students and Poilievre's genocidal Jewish supremacism.

The "yapping Zionist chihuahua" wants to starve Palestinians, deliver more arms to Israel and suppress opposition to its crimes. Poilievre also promotes the conspiracy theory that Iran controls Palestinians in Gaza and supports more Israeli violence in the region. Last week the executive vice president of the Washington DC based Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, Trita Parsi, posted a clip of Poilievre calling on Israel to bomb Iran. Parsi tweeted: "Somehow, some Western leaders still manage to continue to shock with their complete disregard for international law or any semblance of objectivity. Here, Poilievre, the soon-to-be PM of Canada, says that Israel bombing Iran 'would be a gift by the Jewish state to humanity.'

"Without evidence, he calls Iran a genocidal state, even though it is Israel that is accused of committing genocide at the ICJ and whose head of government has an ICC arrest warrant in his name."

All this seems to make sense in the irony-free pro-Zionist conservative world. But for most of us the fact Poilievre wants to defund universities that don't protect Jewish supporters of Israel from ideas that makes them "uncomfortable" exposes the hypocrisy of those claiming to fight 'wokism' on the left.
