Tobacco Lung Cancer is because of Polonium NOT Tar!

Tobacco

The presence of polonium in tobacco smoke has been known since the early 1960s[60] [61]. Some of the world's biggest tobacco firms researched ways to remove the substance – to no avail – over a 40-year period but never published the results.[22]

Radioactive Polonium-210 contained in phosphate fertilizers is absorbed by the roots of plants (such as tobacco) and stored in its tissues[62] [63] [64]. Tobacco plants fertilized by rock phosphates contain Polonium-210, which emits alpha radiation estimated to cause about 11,700 lung cancer deaths annually worldwide. [22][65] [66]

Haha I knew it! In order to get lung cancer, or any cancer, there has to be radioactive decay or radiation. Tar does not give off radiation. This also proves that it is impossible to get lung cancer from marijuana

I am so glad I quit cigarettes. I went on the patch for a while and now I smoke cigars. As far as I know, they have no added chemicals in them.

Unless the green is grown with phosphate fertilizers.  Chemicals are used to enhance the productivity of indoor growth sometimes.  Just a suggestion.

But tar is not good for the lungs, coating it in sticky crap... not best for the health of the lung.

Well not sure of that, whether or not it is possible for Marry Jane to also soak a bit up from the fertilizer... I don't know if they studied that, lot of grow-ups use the same types of fertilizer ... But I wouldn't be putting my pot down in fear of cancer anyways, we've got worse things on the horizon to worry about ... unfortunately (well I guess 'unfortunately' I mean : Tobacco cancer or the Jewish version?  ;)   )

I've been telling my brother who smokes cigs about this for the past several years. I've offered him tobacco seeds to grow his own and given increases in taxes maybe the fool will. I also had a chat with my neighbors grandmother (80 something years old) who said her father was a tobacco farmer and chewed every day but never got cancer. The radioactive isotopes ARE the problem. As far as growing herb with chemical fertilizers is it known if radioactive isotopes are actually in the fertilizer? IE: miracle grow or schultz or any of the name brand stuff? I use that stuff but not as frequently any more. My gf's mom brought a bunch to us so I've been using it when I'm between composting sessions. If you know these commercial brands have isotopes please cite the source so I can make sure before I go throwing out what I have... BTW If any one here wants some tobacco seeds and you can't locate them online or elsewhere contact me and we can work something out. All I'd want covered is shipping. It's a variety from a southern Maryland county called Calvert County. I've never smoked it (don't care for nicotine) but I've chewed it a couple of times and it's always too strong for me.

BTW MJ has proven anticancer and neuroprotective (from neurotoxins) properties...never a bad idea to keep some around  :D
I'm tempted to start another thread on herbs w/ known health effects for others on here. Nature gave us pretty much every thing we'll ever need.

Joeblowman,
You got it right!
Actually, some German scientists had that figured out back in the thirties.
They discovered that after the introduction of tailer made cigs in the early 20's, that this radio-active poisoning really took off.
It has to do with the tremendous heat generated at the center of the cherry when taking a puff versus the relative low temp of hand rolled smokes.
The radio active phosphorous becomes extremely toxic due to conversion by high heat.
A 2 pack a day smoker for thirty years must glow in the dark.

Im pretty sure mary jane has anti-cancerous properties as jai_mann stated. It doesn't matter with me because I dont smoke cigs or mj, only hookah which has 0% tar and is much cleaner than cigarettes (and more smoke and added buzz 8-) ). Plus I read that nicotine is actually good for you, even though it is addictive. http://ezinearticles.com/?Smoking-Fact- ... &id=289253

I had to chuckle the other day when I heard on CBC that the leader of the Green Party in IsraHELL was visiting the grave of Ben Gurian where he was having a chat with the ex prime minister.
He lit up a joint and asked Ben if he wanted a puff and then reiterated with "Oh thats right you only smoked cigarretes."
He said to Ben that weed was really expensive.
He then went on to ask Ben why weed was illegal in IsraHELL and why Hamas and the Palestinians were growing it to finance rockets being sent into IsraHELL.
He asked Ben " wouldn't it be a better idea if IsraHELL was the one making all the money off it?"
It was fucking hilarious!!
