I took this stuff down from his Guerrilla Warfare series, which is awesome, and a must-see - John/WorldWarIII is an instant favourite of mine, and, while I may be proven wrong, seems like a bus I'll be riding for a long time (to reference HHQ's excellent analogy). I don't agree with him on everything, but he's an honest, and intelligent motherfucker.

Here are the books he talked about that I am torrenting at the moment...

Ray Mears Survival Series

got first series and I am downloading series 2.

I am amazed at the importance of maintaining ones culture for ones survival and how closely the two are integrated. I can only say, that I feel quite domesticated. I remember my first trip to the country side of Thailand and the culture shock I experienced, from food, to hygiene, to the insects, to cobra's in the front yard, but what I have learned is that they have a culture that translates into their lives. If they loose sight of it, and get drawn into the civilized world, they loose themselves in the plastic things they purchase on debt.

I have seen The bambo pot before for cooking sticky rice. interesting note you can cook a chicken by sticking it on a beer bottle and by placing a tin can over it and surrounding it with hay and lighting the hay a few times

A good book, for learning self sufficiency skills, which I believe will become quite essential in the not too distant future, is called "The Encyclopedia of Country Living," by Carla Emery.  It is pretty much all encompassing, and (from the cover: "includes how to cultivate a garden, buy land, bake bread, raise farm animals, make sausage, can peaches, milk a goat, grow herbs (no, not that kind), churn butter, build a chicken coop, catch a pig, cook on a wood stove and much more... "

It may be at your local library, but if not, look around for a used copy online or at an independent bookstore.

Another good book to keep onhand is called "Prescriptions for nutritional healing," by Balch.  This could be important knowledge to have in the future.

Wow......... thanks for compiling so much info together.   There are a lot of valuable techniques that can be shared.

In elementary school I learned an old science fair technique for getting fresh water from soil/sand.   Place the sand in a container and let it sit in the sun or under a lamp with a plastic covering taped or tied to the top.   If you prepare by finding multiple containers and some trash plastic bags you can then get water from mud / sand.   The wetter the soil, the more condensation you will get.    This of course is in the event that you have no access to fresh water.

You can also clean lake water by filtering it through charcoal in a coffee filter- that is, if you can find some charcoal and coffee filters.   Wont reduce many parasites or bacteria, but it is effective as reducing pollutants.   You could then use a silver colloid solution to rid the water of bacteria and parasites.

Colloidal silver water is also an excellent anti-bacterial, and anti-parasite/viral.   more info on how to make colloidal silver here    http://toolsforhealing.com/Products/Sil ... ators.html

I plan to be moving into a rural area sometime in the next year or two in preparation.   It might be a good idea to start living in survival mode before the time comes when there is not a choice.   I have already started learning how to grow plants and herbs and make them bear more fruit naturally through pruning.

I think that if the war hits and all I have is a few books and some ideas, it might not turn out very well unless I am already used to living this way by choice.
