A four part piece on Aluminum in Antiperspirants and possible health implications from using them.

Did you know Antiperspirants are considered over the counter drugs? They are, because they have an affect on the body (closing the pores). But what else might the smear of chemicals be doing?

When I first read 'Aluminum-Zirconium 21%' on the bar that I use and found out about all this I just felt like, these bastards! getting us from yet another angle! I don't know, I wasn't too mad, a bit disappointed...glad that I had made another realization, but feeling unfortunate for the zombies. And Oy vey, another thing to tell them to change in their lives...
You are applying Aluminum right on your lymph nodes under your arms if you use an Antiperspirant. And how many of us in the developed world use it!? Several times a week... Check out if your Antiperspirant has Aluminum anywhere on the label. If so, trash it!

I think this is very serious, actually... A huge contributor to cancer in the developed world?...and to peoples' minds being...damaged? Surely. We've heard Daryl mention how soft metals accumulate in the body and brain...

Read up on your Lymphatic System:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymphatic_system

This series that I found doing a search touches more on what it could be doing to our woman. Seems to be a serious suspect for breast cancer...
Get the people you care about off Antiperspirants. Deodorants do not have Aluminum in them, but I don't know about them either. Simple rule: stay away from all chemicals

How about how wide this assault on us is, eh!? Geeeez...

Huge thanks to Daryl for making his listeners aware of this! He's mentioned it quite a few times...

Deodorants, Antiperspirants and Your Health

I still remember the brand of my first deodorant / antiperspirant, the store I bought it at and the reason I bought it for. I also remember that I bought the brand and the scent that was being advertised at the time. For teenagers, deodorants / antiperspirants have become a right of passage, a part of a teenager's identity. The beginning of a lifelong routine...

As an adult, most of us apply deodorant or antiperspirant at least once per day. One is expected to prevent or mask body odors, and as a result deodorants / antiperspirants have become a part of our lifelong personal hygiene regime. The majority of people don't know the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants; many just use whatever appealing brand smells the nicest.

I used to do the same, until I learned that the antiperspirant that I used on a daily basis contained ingredients that I now consider to be harmful. I found a better and much cheaper alternative, which I especially appreciate after the research I have done for this article.

The goal of this article is to provide an overview of the health risks that come with the regular use of most deodorants and all antiperspirants.

This first part of the series will explain the basics: the cause of body odor, the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants, and a short overview on both products. The second part of this series will look into the connection between the aluminum in antiperspirants and Alzheimer's Disease. The third part will focus on the aluminum in antiperspirants and Breast Cancer. The fourth part will talk about the connection between Deodorants, Parabens and Breast Cancer. The final part will delve into alternatives to aluminum / parabens containing antiperspirants / deodorants.

Sweating and Body Odor

Sweating is your body's mechanism to cool down. The average person has about 2.6 million sweat glands, and sweat glands come in two types: eccrine and apocrine.

Eccrine - The majority of sweat glands on your body are eccrine, these are the glands you have on your forehead, on your hands and on your feet. The eccrine glands are active from birth, and produce sweat free of proteins and fatty acids.

Apocrine - These glands are in your arm pits and in your genital area. The apocrine glands usually end in hair follicles and become active during puberty. The sweat produced by the apocrine glands contains proteins and fatty acids.

Sweat has no odor, the familiar unpleasant odor is caused by bacteria that live on our skin and hair. These bacteria metabolize the proteins and fatty acids from our apocrine sweat, causing body odor. [1]

Deodorants deal with the smell by neutralizing it and by killing the bacteria that metabolize the proteins and fatty acids.

Antiperspirants on the other hand, try to prevent sweating by blocking the pores using aluminum. Without sweat, the bacteria cannot metabolize proteins and fatty acids that cause body odor.[2]

The Semantics of Deodorants and Antiperspirants

Many antiperspirants also have a deodorant component. It might be for this reason that 'deodorant' and 'antiperspirant' are used interchangeably.

For clarity, this article will consider deodorants to be products that mask, suppress or neutralize odors [3].

Antiperspirants are products that try to prevent sweating by using aluminum. However, most antiperspirants also have a deodorizing component.

There are deodorants available that do not have the harmful ingredients, but only have safe natural ingredients. These deodorants will be referred to as 'natural deodorants'. The sections that talk about 'deodorants', do not refer to 'natural deodorants'.

Antiperspirants - The Over-The-Counter Drug

It might be a surprise to learn that the antiperspirant you use daily is in fact an over-the-counter (OTC) drug. As mentioned, Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing, or blocking the pores with aluminum salts in order to prevent the release of sweat, effectively changing the function of the body. Antiperspirants are considered to be drugs because they affect the physiology of the body. [4]

Because antiperspirants are drugs, they are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consequently, every antiperspirant sold in the US has a Drug Identification Number (DIN), which you can find on the label. A document called 'monograph' states requirements for categories of nonprescription drugs such as antiperspirants. It defines for example what ingredients may be used and for what intended use. If the standards of the OTC monograph are met, premarket approval of a potentially new OTC product is not necessary.[5]

Antiperspirants contain many ingredients. However, part II and III of this series will focus on the active ingredient for antiperspirants: Aluminum. Most antiperspirants also contain paraben, an ingredient that is also used in deodorants.

Deodorants

As mentioned, deodorants deal with body odor by neutralizing the smell and by killing the bacteria that metabolize the proteins and fatty acids that occur in sweat.

In the last decade one particular ingredient in deodorants has become controversial: Paraben, a widely used preservative. Part IV will focus on paraben and its health effects.

Deodorants and Antiperspirants are Considered to be Safe

Both antiperspirants and deodorants are considered to be safe by the FDA [5][6], the American Cancer Society [7], the National Cancer Institute[8] and the Mayo Clinic [9].

However, as you will learn in this series, FDA regulation does not mean that a drug is without danger. Like prescription drugs, the FDA oversees OTC drugs to ensure that they are properly labeled and that their benefits outweigh their risks.[5]

There are many products or ingredients of products that have become controversial in regards to health effects. However, this does not mean that products will be taken off the market until deemed safe. Often, the FDA does not consider the evidence of danger to consumer's health strong enough to take action.

The FDA will be the main subject of a future article, but if you want to research some of the bad decisions the FDA has made in the past, then Google some examples of product that only got pulled off the shelves when it became too obvious that people were dying due to heart attacks caused by these medications: 'Vioxx', 'Celebrex' and 'Bextra'. The conclusion of this debacle according to leading cardiologist Dr. Eric Topol:

Neither of the two major forces in this 5-and-a-half-year affair — neither Merck nor the FDA — fulfilled its responsibilities to the public [10]

However, I believe that the articles in this series will help you to educate yourself and allow you to decide for yourself rather than having to rely on often well-meaning but sometimes misdirected organizations and institutions.

Good post. I stopped using deoderant & antiperspirants this past winter. Since I'm pretty inactive due to a chronic injury I don't work up a sweat and it's cold where I am so I've gotten by w/ no odors and normal baths ;). Now that it's warming up and physical therapy is well underway I've started using http://no-bo.com/ which I heard about on a radio program. It works well. It's weird sweating and not stinking... I just read today in a survivalist book that the leafy plantaine which is a popular plant and a good nutritious food works as a deodorant (look up it's picture you probably have them growing in your yard along with dandelions...). I like the smell. It smells mainly like grape leaf. Personally I would make the stuff if I had easy access to a home recipe. If any one else has been experimenting with this stuff please post your experiences. I'll try the plantaine thing here soon and post results.

I'll be looking for some Coriander/Celantro!

I already picked up a natural Aluminum free bar. Even it will be used sparingly.

QuoteThe Poor Man's Chelation Therapy
From Alternatives

There's nothing I like more than learning about inexpensive, common herbs or spices that exhibit unusual healing properties. Historically, the use of herbs and spices in cooking evolved as a method to preserve foods and make them safer to store and eat. While we've grown accustomed to using these items to enhanced or accentuate flavors of food, researchers continue to discover that they have much more to offer than just good taste. A recent example involves the work of Dr. Yoshiaki Omura.

Dr. Omura recently informed us that he discovered almost by accident, that the leaves of the coriander plant can accelerate the excretion of mercury, lead and aluminum from the body. He had been treating several patients for an eye infection called trachoma (granular conjunctivitis), which is caused by the micro-organism Chlamydia trachomatis. Following the standard treatment with antibiotics. Dr. Omura found that the patients' symptoms would clear up initially, then recur within a few month. He experienced similar difficulties in treating viral related problems like Herpes Simplex types I & II and Cytomegalovirus infection.

Cilantro Helps Flush Out Heavy Metals
After taking a closer look, Dr. Omura found those organisms seemed to hide and flourish in area of the body where there were concentrations of heavy metals like mercury, lead and aluminum. Somehow the organism were able to use the toxic metals to protect themselves from the antibiotics.

It just so happens that while he was testing for those metals, Dr. Omura noticed the mercury level in the urine increased after one consumed a healthy serving of Vietnamese soup. The soup contains Chinese parsley, or it is better known in this country, cilantro. (Some of you may also know it as coriander, since it comes from the leaves of the coriander plant.)

Further testing revealed that eating cilantro also increased urinary excretion of lead and aluminum. And when cilantro was used concurrently with antibiotics or natural anti-viral agents and/or fatty acids like EPA with D.A., the above infection could be eliminated for good. (Acupnct Electrother Res. 95:20 (3-4): 195-229.) Dr. Omura has made a remarkable discovery. He's found a novel technique which greatly increases our ability to clear up recurring infections both viral and bacterial. And perhaps more exciting, he's discovered an inexpensive, easy way to remove (or "chelate") toxic metals from the nervous system and body tissue - one that anybody can use.

This is Great News for Amalgam Sufferers
Chelation therapy using chemicals like EDTA has long been used to help remove these heavy metals, but cilantro is the only natural substance I'm aware of that has demonstrated this ability. This will become news for people suffering from the ill effect of amalgam dental fillings, which contains approximately 50% mercury.

Dr. Omura recently performed another study in which three amalgam filling where removed from an individual using all of the precautions available to prevent absorption of the mercury from the amalgam. Even with strong air and water suction, water rinses, and a rubber dental dam, significant amounts of mercury were later found in the individual's lungs, kidneys, endocrine organs, liver and heart. There was no mercury in this tissue prior to the amalgam removal.

Remarkably, without the help of any chelation agents, cilantro was able to remove the mercury in two to three weeks. (Acupunct Electrother Res 96;21 (2): 133-60.) Since some of the patients didn't like the taste of fresh cilantro, Dr. Omura had a pharmaceutical company create a 100 mg cilantro tablet. In the above dental study, one tablet was taken four times a day. As of yet, I haven't been able to find a tested commercial tablet of cilantro.

It is believed that the active components in cilantro are easily destroyed during processing. For this reason, I recommend sticking to fresh herb. It can be eaten raw in soup or salad, on tacos, or as garnish with practically any dish.

Cilantro is best taken in organic form, free of pesticides and most potent. Eat it raw or mixed into salads in uncooked form for two weeks. Combine the Cilantro consumption with Chlorella to help "mop up" and excrete the heavy metals from the body.

QuoteCilantro Chelation Pesto

Heavy metal poisoning is rampant. It is a major cause of hormonal imbalances, cancer, thyroid problems, neurological disturbances, learning problems, depression, food allergies, parasites, etc. etc. This is a great recipe that is not only easy to make but also really yummy, and it tells you how to remove heavy metals from the body!

Cilantro is truly a healing food. One friend suffering from high blood pressure due to mercury poisoning had her blood pressure return to normal after eating two teaspoons of this pesto daily for only a week. So whether you need to detoxify heavy metals from your body or just wish to use it as a preventative measure, 2 teaspoons a day is all you need to take. This pesto has now become a regular in my diet. Enjoy!

Cilantro Chelation Pesto

4 cloves garlic
1/3 cup Brazil nuts (selenium)
1/3 cup sunflower seeds (cysteine)
1/3 cup pumpkin seeds (zinc, magnesium)
2 cups packed fresh cilantro (coriander, Chinese parsley) (vitamin A)
2/3 cup flaxseed oil
4 tablespoons lemon juice (vitamin C)
2 tsp dulse powder
Sea salt to taste

Process the cilantro and flaxseed oil in a blender until the coriander is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts and seeds, dulse and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is finely blended into a paste. Add a pinch to sea salt to taste and blend again. Store in dark glass jars if possible. It freezes well, so purchase cilantro in season and fill enough jars to last through the year.

Cilantro has been proven to chelate toxic metals from our bodies in a relatively short period of time. Combined with the benefits of the other ingredients, this recipe is a powerful tissue cleanser.

Two teaspoons of this pesto daily for three weeks is purportedly enough to increase the urinary excretion of mercury, lead, and aluminum, thus effectively removing these toxic metals from our bodies. We can consider doing this cleanse for three weeks at least once a year. The pesto is delicious on toast, baked potatoes, and pasta.

Reading from sports news I see this regarding Alzheimer's!

QuoteThe star receiver is in Washington, D.C., attending the sixth annual National Alzheimer's Gala. He'll receive the Alzheimer's Association's first Young Champions Award on Wednesday night for raising awareness in the fight against the disease. Owens' grandmother has Alzheimer's.

Among the others being honoured are French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller (Mr. I no likey  the internet, it's too truthful) of West Virginia and his wife, Sharon Percy Rockefeller.

The Rockefeller's are receiving awards for their fight against Alzheimer's!? Whaaa...?
The MFkers are the ones playing the most major role in causing it!

Chlorella and cilantro when used in combination can make a dent in your level of aluminum, a metal notoriously difficult to remove from the body.
Once cilantro binds to aluminum, the chlorella will then hasten its excretion through your kidneys. Chlorella also supports your liver's detoxification enzymes while supplying plenty of glutathione-a key detox player.

Chlorella - The Perfect Green Food for your Health

http://www.vistamagonline.com/articles/ ... our_health

Chlorella rids the body of heavy metals. Anyone who has ever had their teeth filled with silver, been vaccinated, eaten seafood, or used certain pharmaceutical drugs could be at risk of mercury poisoning.
The human body is capable of resisting disease, repairing itself and adapting to its ever-changing environment. When given the correct vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other essential dietary needs, our bodies are almost guaranteed to respond with good health. While many plants can provide the body with important nutrients, very few foods have such a diverse, life-enhancing and remarkable nutrient profile as chlorella. Chlorella is aunicellular fresh water green algae and it is one of the oldest plant forms on the planet. As a near perfect food, chlorella has a multitude of impressive benefits that go far beyond what most foods can do. Namely, chlorella can help:
•   build the immune system
•   improve digestion
•   increase energy
•   balance pH levels
•   control blood sugar levels
•   detoxify the blood, liver and bowels
•   rid the body of heavy metals, pesticides, and dioxins
Chlorella has been the subject of thousands of medical and scientific studies. No other food source has been researched to such lengths and today we are beginning to realize that chlorella holds more value than ever before. With the increase in pollutants and the fact that our food supply is so sadly denatured, people are searching for whole foods that can replenish what has been lost in our food chain. Scientists know that minerals and trace elements are vitally important to our health and that we require them for proper cellular function. We see a correlation between a lack of minerals in our diet and an increase in disease. According to a recent U.S. Senate study, 99 percent of Americans are deficient in minerals.
Chlorella offers complete nutrition
Chlorella is a complete food that provides sustenance to each and every cell in your body. It contains all eight essential amino acids and is rich in vitamin B12, beta carotene, minerals, anti-oxidants, DNA/RNA, enzymes, fiber, essential fatty acids, chlorophyll, and Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF). Unlike a vitamin/mineral pill, chlorella is a natural, whole food. The body naturally has an affinity for food and therefore it can assimilate and digest chlorella with ease. The end result is less stress on the body as well as a much higher absorption rate as compared to a man made source.
Chlorella's starring cast: CGF and chlorophyll
CGF is the unique complex exclusive to chlorella that is thought to be the source of its astounding healing properties. CGF is produced during the intense photosynthesis that enables chlorella to grow so rapidly (it can quadruple itself every 24 hours). CGF accelerates tissue healing and repair in humans and animals, improves growth rates in children and stimulates tissue renewal and repair in the adult body. As nature has intended, chlorella does not promote the growth of unhealthy or diseased tissue, nor does it cause abnormal growth or weight gain in adults.
Chlorophyll is the substance that gives plants their green color. The higher the concentration of chlorophyll, the darker the green of the plant. Chlorella contains the highest levels of chlorophyll of any plant. Chlorophyll purifies, rebuilds and renews at a cellular level. It is a natural deodorant, eliminating bad breath and body odour and it has anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, it is helpful in the treatment of anemia, it strengthens the intestines and it helps to reduce blood pressure.
Protecting against environmental pollutants
Chlorella rids the body of heavy metals. Anyone who has ever had their teeth filled with silver, been vaccinated, eaten seafood, or used certain pharmaceutical drugs could be at risk of mercury poisoning. Mercury is a very dangerous neurotoxin. Other hazardous heavy metals, dioxins and PCBs found in our food and environment can also play a role in poor health. The outer shell of chlorella binds with these toxic substances and safely extracts them from the body. With regular use, the body will begin to detoxify itself and remove these harmful chemicals. The burden of elimination is then taken off of organs such as the liver, kidneys, bowels, lungs and skin. The chelation benefits of chlorella take place after three to six months of regular use.
How to take chlorella
Chlorella is an excellent supplement for just about everyone. Children, the elderly, athletes, pregnant women and even pets can safely add it to their diets. A maintenance dose of two to three grams per day is sufficient for most, although athletes and anyone ill, over-stressed, or skipping meals is recommended to take more. For therapeutic purposes the dosage should be anywhere from 5 to 10 grams per day. It can be taken at anytime during the day but is best taken before meals to aid in digestion.
Choosing chlorella
Not all chlorella is created equally. Quality, purity and potency vary depending on cultivation procedures and on growing techniques. There can be quite a difference between one brand to another. Here are some tips to consider:
•   Look for chlorella that has been grown outdoors in natural sunlight, and clean, mineral rich water.
•   Make sure the cell wall has been broken down by milling or jet-spraying to enhance digestibility.
•   Try to find products made from 100 percent chlorella without the use of binders, fillers, or other unnatural additives.
•   Most importantly, look for brands with high levels of CGF, chlorophyll and protein.
Matthew 22:  36-40
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him.  Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
