QuoteIrish employment may not return to the levels seen during its economic boom for more than a decade, according to a report by Ernst & Young.

The prolonged recovery will mean "the recession will have a generational impact and bring severe economic and social hardship to many," Ernst & Young said in a report published today. Employment peaked in 2007 and won't return to that level until 2021, it said.

Ireland's economy is shrinking at the fastest pace in the euro area, hit by a slump in its property market and the global recession. Unemployment has surged to a 13-year high as companies including Dell and Royal Bank of Scotland cut jobs and the government has forecast that the economy will shrink 13 percent between 2008 and 2010.

Government debt, the slow pace of recovery in construction output, and a "lack of capacity" for growth in the public sector will hamper Ireland's economic recovery, Neil Gibson, senior adviser at Ernst & Young, said in the report. The economy will shrink 8.9 percent this year before a "modest" recovery in 2010, the report says.

I think this will be the best case situation for the debt laden western world.
I think all of us here can agree there will be no "V" (on a graph) shaped recovery. Instead, I anyway have planned for a prolonged U shaped depression with plenty of false recoveries along the way. Don't forget a war or a pandemic or both thrown in to cull off us useless eaters. We will trundle along the bottom of the "U" until 2018  or later. (my guess)
Alot will also depend on demographics and how the west tackles the problems caused by its aging population.

I think the report glosses over the future with a promise that things will be just like they were again.

IMO the majority of humans will follow the same path that horses took at the start of the last century.
Then the car was taking more and more of a role in the area of transportation. The horse was obsolete.
Robots will do most of the manufacturing in the post depression world. Humans "useless eaters" are already obsolete in the world of the elite.
My brother works in a bar here (Ireland). We often talk about the awarness level of the sheople. He says he hears alot of people where he works come in and say "You know, I think its a good time to buy a house." They have no grasp on reality.
The easiest game in town so far is staying one step ahead of the masses on the satanic death march  .
The minds of the sheople are as Eustace Mullins so excellently put it are "Virgin Terrortiory" for our information, that makes us the pioneer settlers. I am glad I'm on the right wagon train  ;) .
