Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband has called for talks between Iran's Leader and the West to find a solution to the country's nuclear issue.

Miliband rejected the notion that the results of the upcoming presidential elections in Iran would have an impact on the nuclear issue, The Times reported.

"You know as well as I do that Iran is governed from the top and the top is the Supreme Leader," Miliband said.

The British top diplomat noted that US President Barack Obama's overtures to Iran have provided Tehran with a "historic opportunity" to prove the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.

"There are no excuses left for Iran," Miliband said. "It can't say that there is not an offer of economic, scientific, political normalization on the table and that is why we are at an important time."

"What I think has changed is that you have an American administration breaking a taboo of 30 years saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is there - it's a choice for the Iranian people - what matters for the rest is whether it is pursuing a nuclear weapons proliferation program," he claimed.
