Iran security forces have uncovered 'two terrorist teams' which had planned to plant bombs in the South East of the country on the June 12 election day.

Sistan-Baluchestan police chief, Brigadier general Gholam-Ali Nekoei said the country's security forces, acting on tip-off, arrested or injured a number of these terrorists on June 10 during clashes in the city of Saravan near the border with Pakistan.

Nekoei noted that many explosive devices have been seized from the terrorists. He says the terrorists infiltrated into Iran from the southeastern border with Pakistan.

The terrorists had aimed to spark panic and commit murder by causing explosions at polling stations and crowded places, he said.

The report came a day after the Intelligence Ministry announced that its forces had uncovered plots by "several terrorist groups" to bomb crowded places in Iran during the presidential poll.

The terrorist suspects have reportedly confessed to "having connections with elements of the intelligence service" of Israel, IRIB quoted the Intelligence Ministry as saying in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, one of the terror groups had planned to blow up prominent Hosseiniyeh-Ershad and al-Nabi mosques in Tehran on election day.
