An Taoiseach Brian Cowen repeatedly says that Lisbon is "fundamental" to our economic recovery;

Eamon de Valera, the founder of his party, a leader of the 1916 Uprising that led to Ireland's independent nationhood and the central framer of the Constitution of Ireland, opposed what Lisbon will bring about: surrendering our sovereignty and control of our economy  to a cabal of elitist politicians and unelected bureaucrats:

His speech on 12 July 1955 to the Dail included these words:

"it would be most unwise to enter into a political federation where a European parliament would decide the economic circumstances of our life here; we did not get out of one position of [British] domination of our affairs by an outside force to get into a worse one"

Since Ireland joined the EEC, a staggering 110,000 rules, regulations, laws and directives have been imposed on us amounting to some 170,000 pages of red tape, resulting in, for example, handing over our  200 billion euro fishing industry to the EU leaving many fishing communities ruined

de Valera also forsaw the further erosion of our political influence and neutrality that Lisbon will facilitate:

"we had refused to be satisfied with a representation of 1 in 6 in the British parliament but in the European Assembly  we had a representation of 4 out of 120, that is, instead of being out-voted on issues important to us by  5 or 6 to 1,  we would have been outvoted by 30 or 40 to 1";

"a small nation has to be extremely cautious when it enters into alliances that bring it into war; we will not be consulted in how a war would be started - the great powers would do that - and when it ended, no matter who won, we would not be consulted as to the terms on which it should end"

[post Lisbon, EU lawmaking will be based primarily on population size; this would, for instance, double Germany's voting power from 8% to 17%  but would halve Ireland's vote to 08%; we would lose the right to veto harmful measures in over 60 areas]

In 2004, French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing chaired a group that framed the EU Constitution, designed as the blueprint for a Federal Continental Superstate; it was submitted to the member states for ratiication in 2005, but the French and Dutch people, in referenda, rejected it;

In 2007, this 'Constitution for Europe' was re-packaged as 'The Reform Treaty' of Lisbon; it contained about 98% of the Constitution's content but went further by seeking to totally change all previous treaties by means of hundreds of ammendments making the Lisbon Treaty almost unreadable;

this was by design to fool the public:
Valery d'Estaing (who headed the committee that wrote the Treaty) quote:

"Public opinion will be led to adopt, without knowing it, the proposals that we dare not present to them directly; all the earlier proposals will be in the new text, but will be hidden and disguised; what was [already] difficult to understand will become utterly incomprehensible, but the substance has been retained"

So it was that the Constitution, masquerading as the Lisbon Treaty was resubmitted in June 2008 for ratification, but this time, the French and Dutch people were not allowed a referendum: their governments betrayed them and ratified it without their consent;

we, however, did have the right to vote and we voted an emphatic 'NO';
Our government proved it was unrepresentative of the Irish people by refusing to support our democratic decision and killing off this attempted grab for more power by an evil, corrupt, anti-Christian, EU elite:
the Daily Mail lifted the lid on part of the dark, corrupt heart of the EU:

This Treaty, if ratified, will create a new, different European Union that will divest each former member state of its essential sovereignty, national identity and democracy - including our right to a referendum - we must vote 'NO' now or we may never be allowed one again

The Irish people are now the only Europeans left to stop Europe from becoming a Roman Empire-style dictatorship;
