Iranians are to domestically produce several biotechnological cancer medication along with factor VII and VIII in a bid to overcome the need for importing the drugs.

"Iranian researchers are producing some 54 previously imported medications, all of which are manufactured through special technologies," the deputy of research and technology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MoHME), Mostafa Ghanei told IRIB.

Ghanei said that some 95 percent of the drugs already consumed in Iran are made in the country, adding that the country has to spend large amounts of foreign currency, equal to one-third of the annual budget of the ministry, to import the remaining 5 percent.

He added that MoHME has allocated large investments in producing biotechnological medications in the country, aiming to save the foreign currency through overcoming the need for importing these drugs.

Ghanei said the country would not need to import any drugs within the next four years.
