QuoteIsrael has ordered the closure of Gaza fuel crossing after a Palestinian employee was wounded by an errant rocked near the facility.

"A Palestinian worker was seriously wounded this morning when a mortar round hit the main fuel distribution centre east of Gaza City," vice president of the Gaza petrol station managers' union, Mahmud Khuzandar, said Wednesday.

He added, Israel then decided to halt shipments of all types of fuel to the Gaza Strip, including industrial fuel for the power plant.

An Israeli military spokesman meanwhile confirmed the closure of the crossing.

A spokesman for the Israeli District Coordination Office, Gil Karie, said fuel deliveries were frozen after the mortar hit.

"They are checking the situation ... We don't know yet if it will open again today, or at what time," he said.

Israel's move to cease transferring industrial fuel, cooking gas and diesel to the territory will gravely affect 1.4 million Palestinians residing there.
