U.S. To Store $800 Mil in Emergency Gear in Israel

The U.S. Army will double the value of emergency military equipment it stockpiles on Israeli soil, and Israel will be allowed to use the U.S. ordnance in the event of a military emergency, according to a report in Monday's issue of the U.S. weekly Defense News.

The report, written by Barbara Opall-Rome, the magazine's Israel correspondent, said that an agreement reached between Washington and Jerusalem last month will bring the value of the military gear to $800 million.

This is the final phase of a process that began over a year ago to determine the type and amount of U.S. weapons and ammunition to be stored in Israel, part of an overarching American effort to stockpile weapons in areas in which its army may need to operate while allowing American allies to make use of the ordnance in emergencies.

The agreement was signed by Brig. Gen. Ofer Wolf, who heads the Israel Defense Forces' technology and logistics branch, and Rear Adm. Andy Brown, the logistics director of U.S. Army European Command.

The United States began stockpiling $100 million in military equipment in Israel in 1990, 12 years after it first began storing weapons within the territory of key allies, starting with South Korea.

An American defense official told Defense News that the U.S.-Israel agreement reflects the Obama administration's continued commitment to Israel's security and the understanding that changes in U.S. economic conditions and inflation have limited the weapons available to Israel.

The deal allows Israel access to a wider spectrum of military ordnance, and the U.S. official said his government was considering which forms of military supplies would be added to stores in Israel. Missiles, armored vehicles, aerial ammunition and artillery ordnance are already stockpiled in the country.

The agreement is expected to aid Israel in its effort to bolster its weapons stockpiles for use in an emergency. Israel's stores of aerial and artillery ammunition were depleted during the Second Lebanon War in 2006, nearly reaching levels the IDF considers dangerously low.

An emergency like slaughtering women and children, I wonder what dangerously low means to those monsters. I'm more convinced that the next war will be against HAMAS again this year or beginning of next year, especially that those pigs get approval ratings from their demon spawn population when they kill women and children netinyahu's approval ratings fell after he "freezed" settlement construction  but still continues the blockade and airstrikes its a PR campaign to say israel did everything they could and HAMAS forced their hand to attack.

They will not strike Iran now unless they really don't need the US anymore because if they strike Iran the US military in the Middle East will be whiped out. The gulf ministates will disappear and oil prices will go through the roof completely destroying the world economy which will have devistating effects on the entire planet. So I don't think Iran is this year, maybe next year after the pullout from Iraq and guarantee of nuetrality from the Iraqi government while using Azerbaijan and Turkey (after a coup or a change of government) with Afghanistan as launch pads.

Israel knows the Onyx SS-N-26 Super Sunburns are armed, aimed and ready to fly from as many as 6 different directions.
Israel has no known defense against these Russian city destroyers.
How would you shoot down a missile coming in at 45 ft., above the ground at mach 2.4???

glad to hear Iran has some ability to defend themselves.

"Analysts however suspect this missile is based on the Russian SS-N-22 Sunburn missile that Iran is said to have acquired via China in 2004."

http://www.centurychina.com/plaboard/ar ... 5850.shtml

"Though Sunburn can fly 150 kilometers at Mach 2.1 [1,520 mph] at an average altitude of 60 feet, Onyx leaves this performance for dead. Using the same launch tubes as Sunburn, Onyx streaks along its extended 200+ kilometer flight path at a blistering Mach 2.9 [2,100 mph], while hugging the ground even closer at an average altitude of only 45 feet. Onyx is 100% Fire and Forget, meaning that once out of the launch tube, flight management is entirely automatic, and you can forget the doomed 93,000-ton aircraft carrier sitting meekly down range, only minutes away from being converted into environmentally-friendly heat and light.

Though SS-N-25 deployment might seem like giant overkill, this is far from being the case, because Onyx differs from Sunburn in one utterly crucial way. So great is the kinetic energy at the point of impact on the target, that Onyx can sink an American aircraft carrier using only a conventional penetrating warhead. Those boffins who might doubt this should calculate the impact energy of 5,500 pounds of missile striking a carrier at a terminal velocity of 2,460 feet per second. Onyx means that Russia or China can sink American aircraft carriers at will without ever having to escalate to nuclear warfare, which gives both countries a massive strategic advantage."

does Iran have the SS-N-25 ?

actually your are wrong. the MTHEL system could take them down or an ABL YAL1-also cities are different to aircraft carriers, unless they are nuke tipped. israel doesnt give a shit about them, iran is toast as soon as/little bit before the dollar ceases as a functioning currency. israel will use nukes.

I beg to differ with mgt23...
These new models although initially designed as a ship killer are a very potent and nearly non-stoppable weapon.
Israel could not even knock out a single scud Saddam fired at them.
What makes you think Israel can trump that utter failure??
One or two fired at a ship may not make it through but,3- 6 fired at the same target at the exact same time = ship or city (micro-nuke) gone.
Russia and China are determined to protect its assets.
Because the chance of Is-al and the Yankees cutting a check (that will not bounce) for destroying their unfinished facilities is nil...at best.

mgt23,
re; (MTHEL system and the ABL YAL1)
I'm calling your assumption these exist in real time and space as anyhing other than a legal fiction existing on paper or in someones overworked imagination and portrayed on a Photoshop example.

There's a Somali phrase that roughly goes: "Coward w/ many sticks!"

Essentially, a coward is never ever heavily armed enough and is never secure.

They fight not against you even together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Their enmity among themselves is very great. You would think they were united, but their hearts are divided, that is because they are a people who understand not.

Yes....and America at one time, used to walk softly while carrying a big stick....
But, no longer..it now acts like a bull in a China Shop.

Russia employs a similar missile underwater.
The Kurst sank in a test firing of these.
Canada had navy officials in Russia at the same time wanting to purchase these to place in their subs they bought from Britain.
The subs proved to be junk.
