QuoteAlzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia among the elderly, and with the ever-increasing size of this population, cases of Alzheimer's disease are expected to triple over the next 50 years. Consequently, the development of treatments that slow or halt the disease progression have become imperative to both improve the quality of life for patients as well as reduce the health care costs attributable to Alzheimer's disease. Here, we demonstrate that the active component of marijuana, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), competitively inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) as well as prevents AChE-induced amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) aggregation, the key pathological marker of Alzheimer's disease. Computational modeling of the THC-AChE interaction revealed that THC binds in the peripheral anionic site of AChE, the critical region involved in amyloidgenesis. Compared to currently approved drugs prescribed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, THC is a considerably superior inhibitor of Aβ aggregation, and this study provides a previously unrecognized molecular mechanism through which cannabinoid molecules may directly impact the progression of this debilitating disease.

Are there any seriously (and reliably) LOW buzz strains left in the world?

well, if "buzz" is associated with high-THC, it's a work-in-process -

some plant breeders have developed strains with extra CBD, the goal being to create a medicine that is physically relaxing, without gobs of THC.

as far as i can tell, the Calif. dispensary named Harborside is bankrolling this development - by buying the weed.  they have a lab next-door with a gas chromatograph & mass spectrometer, i forget the name of the lab.

I don't want to get into what's happening right now with all of this CBD propaganda, as it is going to be the link between Pfizer and marijuana culture, but if you're looking for a "low buzz" strain, I honestly would avoid anything high in CDB content. CBD is the chemical which induces opiate-like effects on the body, which are preferred by the "medical community" as a way of controlling intense pain and suffering associated with many diseases and therapies.

HOWEVER, indica strains (CBD producing strains)  are also more commercially viable, as they yield the most medication in the least amount of space and time. For this reason, we are seeing SATIVA STRAINS "WEEDED OUT."

Sativa strains are preferable for my medication needs, and they are also favorites of pot connoisseurs and those who smoke as part of their life (and by people who don't want to get "couchlocked"). Sativa strains are low producers of CBD, the chemicals that produce PHYSICAL effects (im simplifying this a bit). However, they are EXTREMELY POTENT in producing CEREBRAL EFFECTS. It is for this reason personally that I like to smoke sativa strains, because they do not bog you down and at the same time are EXTREMELY enlightening. HOWEVER, it is EXTREMELY HARD to find PURE Sativa strains.

The PURE SATIVAS were some of the original strains to go into mass circulation during the 60's and 70's, the most prominent ones being (and the ultimate parents of all the phenos that now exist) acapulco gold, panama red, etc. in fact, many of those strains were landracers (grew and adapted naturally in the wild) that were brought back to a few guys in Cali do to their thing with.)

If you want buzz, seek out Sativa dominant (or pure sativa) strains, strains that are low in CBD. regulate your intake by starting extremely small.

Rick Simpson's oil should be a part of everyone's diet, even if  half of the stories were to be exaggerated (wich i don't think they are) it still produced great results.
