Last week, as the draft Republican platform was leaked, Trump proudly tweeted that it was the "most pro-Israel of all time!" Avoiding any mention of a two-state solution, it states: "Support for Israel is an expression of Americanism. ... We reject the false notion that Israel is an occupier."

The capitulation was so complete that even the Anti-Defamation League, a New York-based apologist group for Israel, called the platform "disappointing" and urged the Republican convention to "reconsider". After all, even Netanyahu pays lip service to the need for a Palestinian state.

But Trump is not signaling caution. His new advisers on Israel, David Friedman and Jason Greenblatt, are fervent supporters of the settlements and annexation of Palestinian territory.

Trump's running mate, announced at the weekend, is Indiana governor Mike Pence, an evangelical Christian and a stalwart of pro-Israel causes.

Notice: Trump backpedaled completely. Having made the the simple point that you have to be evenhanded — that wasn't good enough for the lobby. Now the Republican Party platform all but awards the West Bank to Israel, and last night in his speech Trump mentioned Israel briefly and favorably. No talk of neutrality going in and the dealmaker making deals.

Trump's backing off has had a pronounced effect. Sheldon Adelson and other Israel hawks have gotten on board with the New York real estate mogul. Newt Gingrich informs us that Adelson will work "hard" for Trump because Hillary Clinton will "be a disaster . . .  for the survival of the state of Israel."

This is the power of the Israel lobby. Mr. Independent has challenged mainstream thinking in countless areas, and when the flak came, altered not one bit. But when the Israel lobby started coming after him, he dropped the challenge. This shows that supporting Israel is a sacred cow. And Trump got his reward. A few people walked out on him at the AIPAC speech, but most listened, and now he's getting Israel lobby money. The lobby is also a discursive force; the press isn't giving him any more pushback on this issue. Because he caved in.

The Jews Who Chose Trump

Does Donald Trump have Jewish supporters? Of course he does, says a new activist group—they just aren't being taken seriously.

The group, called Jews Choose Trump, plans to bring together Jewish voters supporting the Republican candidate. It argues that Jewish Trump supporters feel silenced—silenced by the Jewish community, silenced by the media at large—and it hopes to serve as their voice.

Since the group launched in late July, around 1,000 Jews have signed up and pledged their support. Its website, which has gotten 55,000 page views, lists supporters from 40 states. "We have more people who don't give their last name—and say they don't give it because of the social pressure not to admit you're voting for Donald Trump," says Carol Greenwald, president of a Maryland investment firm and one of the group's founders.

One website page titled "Why We Support Trump" lists a selection of comments—wide-ranging in both focus and tone—from those supporters:

"Any of us voting for Hillary shows a particular disdain towards Israel's survival," writes Ralph from New York.

"Conservative values, strong on national security, and destroying ISIS, will approve conservative judges," writes Luis from New York.

"I love Trump! Donald Trump speaks for me. He is honest. He tells it like it is. He supports a strong America," writes Shelley from Nevada.

He tells it like it is. It's a campaign standard for Trump, and it's the rationale the group uses to describe why the candidate would be better for Israel. On its website, it quotes Trump on his support for Israel and his opposition to the Iran deal. "Trump suffers no confusion as to who is a friend and who is a foe," the group writes. "Those people who place as their top priority the security of Israel—they're voting for Trump," Greenwald says. "And those that are Democrats first and Jews second—they're voting for Hillary Clinton."

In the past, Greenwald has been involved in similar right-wing, pro-Israel groups. Back in 2013, for instance, as the treasurer of Citizens Opposed to Propaganda Masquerading as Art, she spoke out against a play produced by Theater J, which Greenwald's group considered to be anti-Israel.

Throughout the election, Jewish groups have condemned Trump for various controversial statements. And some right-leaning Jewish organizations have veered toward criticizing Clinton rather than focusing on the Republican candidate. When Trump won the Indiana primary in May, the Republican Jewish Coalition released a statement congratulating the candidate—but the group didn't focus on Trump; instead, it condemned Clinton and reiterated its commitment to gaining a maintaining a majority in the House and Senate.

Even in more traditional elections, American Jewish voters tend to swing left. In the 2012 election, nearly 70 percent voted for Barack Obama. In 2014, 64 percent of U.S. Jews leaned toward or identified with the Democratic Party.

   Speaking in Connecticut, a heavily Democratic state where he has a
   long-shot of being victorious, even Republican strategists questioning
   his decision-making...
   
       "It's asinine that he would be in Connecticut holding a public
        rally less than 90 days before the election," said Republican
        strategist Matt Mackowiak.
   
       "You don't see Hillary publicly campaigning in Idaho and
        Mississippi. I have to think this proves the candidate is running
        the campaign, which explains why it's such a disaster of biblical
        proportions."

   But after continuing his awkward-for-the-mainstream finger pointing
   over the founding of ISIS (which as Scott Adams notes, could be a
   stroke of genius)...
   
       1. The mainstream media knows they are smarter than Donald Trump.
          They see evidence of this truth all the time, although much of that
          evidence is confirmation bias.
   
       Then......
   
       2. Trump does something smart – accusing Obama and Clinton of being
          "founders" of ISIS. This is a clever way to get the world to debate
          Clinton and Obama's ineffectiveness during a time when ISIS
          expanded. In other words, it is brilliant media manipulation, and
          it worked.
   
       3. CNN and other Clinton supporters interpret Trump's statement
          about ISIS as absurd and uninformed because they can't imagine a
          scenario in which Trump does something brilliant. Trump being
          brilliant isn't one of the options, as far as they know.
   
       The reality of Trump's clever persuasion is crystal-clear to anyone
       who thinks Trump is smart. Trump was clearly joking about the
       "founder" part to get people squawking, and it worked. Total
       success. Brilliant technique.
   
       Now the media has a big problem. They can't admit that they were
       extraordinarily dumb in this situation and Trump was brilliant.
       That reality is invisible to them because it doesn't fit their
       worldview.
   
       So...cognitive dissonance happens.
   
       This is a textbook set-up for cognitive dissonance. The facts we
       observe (Trump is smart, the media is gullible) is opposite of the
       media's worldview in which they are smart and Trump is uninformed.
       So what do they do?
   
       They act as if Trump is the dumb one in this situation. Because
       that fits their worldview.
   
       And...they...fact-check his claim.

       He again threatened to revoke the press credentials of The New York
       Times. The credentials allow reporters access to press-only areas
       of his campaign events. He has already banned other outlets,
       including The Washington Post.   
       On Saturday, the New York newspaper published an article detailing
       failed efforts to make Trump focus his campaign on the general
       election.
   
       "These are the most dishonest people," Trump said. "Maybe we'll
        start thinking about taking their press credentials away from them."
   
   Then Trump took to Twitter to continue to attack The New York Times'
   claims that he is ignoring advisers' pleas amid falling poll numbers...
   
       In a story titled "Inside the Failing Mission to Tame Trump's
       Tongue," advisers told the Times that Trump's mood in private is
       often sullen and erratic.
   
       "He veers from barking at members of his staff to grumbling about
        how he was better off following his own instincts during the
        primaries and suggesting he should not have heeded their calls for
        change," the story says, adding that the billionaire "broods about
        his souring relationship with the news media."

Secretive 'Children of Israel' backs Trump at $25,000-per-head California fundraiser

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump headlined a $25,000-per-ticket fundraiser at the California home of Saul Fox, a private equity CEO and secret donor behind the "Children of Israel."

Forty people attended the Monday fundraiser including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who arrived with Trump.

The visit was the billionaire's first visit to San Jose since a clash between his supporters and protesters in the Silicon Valley city.

It was revealed only earlier this month that he was the main donor behind 'Children of Israel,' who have donated $734,000 to the Republican party so far this year, according to The Intercept.

This includes a $400,000 donation to the Super PAC Stand for Truth, which supported Ted Cruz's presidential run, as well as $334,000 to the RNC.

Shaofen Gao, a realtor in Silicon Valley with no history of making political contributions, was listed as the registered agent for Children of Israel in mid-2015, but a later filing revealed that the sole person behind the money was Fox.

Fox hasn't commented on why he channeled the money through the company, keeping his identity hidden. In addition to the company's donations, Fox himself has also donated to the GOP.

Most recently, he donated $100,000 to speaker of the House Paul Ryan's aptly-titled fundraiser "Team Ryan" as well as a $25,000 donation to Trump's joint fundraising committee.

Fox's 2016 donations also include $2,700 to Mike Huckabee's presidential bid and the $5,400 maximum to the campaigns of both Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Since the Supreme Court's Citizens United v FEC decision in 2010, the 2016 election cycle has seen an unprecedented influx of corporate donations with one out of every €8 collected by super PACs coming from 'ghost corporations,' according to the Washington Post.

In 2015, Children of Israel gave $50,000 to Pursuing America's Greatness, a super PAC supporting Huckabee's run, as well as $100,000 to a pro-Huckabee group.

   border to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
   
   The Republican presidential nominee tweeted Tuesday evening that he had
   accepted the Mexican leader's invitation.
   
   After posting a picture of himself on May 5, Cinco de Mayo, eating a
   taco bowl with the caption "I love Hispanics!" his support among the
   Latino community did not improve. Trump has had to find alternative
   ways to soften his image and stance on immigration.

   Trump is scheduled to speak with more depth on his immigration policy
   in Arizona on Wednesday.
