BREAKING: At least 26 dead in Paris, hostage-taking in theater

PARIS (AP) -- Two police officials say that at least 26 people have been killed in shootings and explosions around Paris, in the deadliest violence in France in decades.

One of the police officials said 11 people were killed in a Paris restaurant in the 10th arrondissement and about 15 killed in the Bataclan theater, where a hostage-taking is under way.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to be publicly named according to police policy.

-- At least 60 people have died in the attacks, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported.

-- At least six shootings took place in Paris and three explosions took place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis late Friday, CNN affiliate BFMTV said. Two or three gunmen entered the Bataclan concert hall while opening fire on law enforcement, BFMTV reported. A source earlier told CNN there were six to six hostage takes, citing a person they were talking to inside the venue.

-- CNN's Jim Bittermann, who is based in Paris, reports a producer who is at the Bataclan tells him that police are firing at a rooftop position near the venue.

-- At least 15 people were killed in shooting attacks in Paris late Friday and three others were killed following several explosions at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, Paris Deputy Mayor Patrick Klugman told CNN. He said President Francois Hollande was evacuated at halftime of the France-Germany soccer match.

At least 18 people were killed in shootings in central Paris late Friday, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported.

The network reported there was a hostage situation at one of the three sites where shootings took place. BFMTV said the ongoing hostage situation was at a theater named Bataclan.

There was a lockdown at the Stade de France due to possible explosions, according to French media. President Francois Hollande was at the stadium, watching France playing world champions Germany in a friendly soccer match, but he left to go to the Interior Ministry.

Police were outside the scene of one of the shootings, a restaurant in the 10th District.

Lylia Melkonian, a reporter for France 2, told CNN the neighborhood has many restaurants that were packed with patrons. Melkonian said authorities were evacuating the area.

A witness told BFMTV that firefighters were on the scene to treat the injured.

In early January of this year, two gunmen attacked the Paris offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 and wounding 11.

Said and Cherif Kouachi wanted to punish the magazine for the publication of cartoons that they believed mocked the Prophet Mohammed. The Kouachi brothers two days later were shot and killed in a standoff with police in Dammartin-en-Goele.

Amedy Coulibaly, an associate of Said and Cherif Kouachi, attacked a Jewish grocery store in Paris, taking more than a dozen people hostage and killing four. Coulibaly had killed a policewoman the day before, on January 8. Coulibaly was killed when police stormed the kosher market.

Terrorists launched a total of six coordinated attacks at high profile sites across Paris:

    * Two suicide bomb attacks at a bar near the Stade de France led to President Hollande being evacuated from the stadium. He has since declared a national state of emergency.
    * Two terrorists with AK47s burst into the Bataclan concert hall, where rock band Eagles of Death Metal were performing. They sprayed bullets and threw grenades into thousands of people before they started slaughtering people one by one.
    * A terrorist armed with an AK47 killed at least 11 people at Cambodian restaurant Le Petit Cambodge in the Bastille area on Rue Bichatat around 9pm.
    * Gunfire and bomb blasts have also been reported at the Louvre art gallery, the Pompidou Centre and Les Halles shopping centre.

Witnesses have been telling of the horror which unfolded inside the Bataclan theatre, where AK47 wielding terrorists shouted 'Allah Akbar' as they burst in and opened fire into a crowd of thousands.

'It looked like a battlefield, there was blood everywhere, there were bodies everywhere,' Marc Coupris, 57, told the Guardian.

He added: 'I was at the far side of the hall when shooting began. There seemed to be at least two gunmen. They shot from the balcony.'

They shot at 'very young' people in the violent attack which lasted around 15 minutes, said Julien Pearce, a journalist at Europe 1. The gunmen, who witnesses have described as young men in theirs 20s, reloaded three or four times as they gunned down innocent people at random.

'Three men with Kalashnikovs and wearing flak jackets burst in in the middle of the concert,' another man, a man named Hervé, told the Telegraph after escaping through an emergency exit.

He said the men were not wearing masks, adding: 'They just started spraying bullets. I saw a girl hit right in front of me. There must have been quite a few dead.'

Another man said: 'The men came in and started shooting. Everyone fell to the ground. It was hell. I took my mum, and we hid. Someone near us said they have gone, so we ran out.'

And Gilles Avel, who was at the Bataclan where the band Eagles of Death Metal were playing, said: 'We are all terrified, and have been told to get away as soon as possible.' 

A witness who was near the front of the concert when he saw a man wearing a cap firing into the crowd. He told the Liberation newspaper: 'He shot in my direction. People started falling and throwing themselves towards the ground.
HOW AN 'UNPRECEDENTED' NIGHT OF TERROR UNFOLDED IN PARIS

8.30pm (GMT): Two explosions - which turned out to be suicide bomb attacks - were heard outside the Stade de France where Hollande  was watching France play Germany.

9.30pm: Reports of a shooting at the Petit Cambodge restaurant five miles away.

10pm: French police confirmed at least 18 people had been killed in terror attacks. There were reports of a shooting at Bataclan concert hall.

10.10pm: Death toll rose to 26 people, 15 of whom were killed at the Bataclan where a hostage crisis was developing. Between 60 and 100 people were being held hostage.

11pm: Hollande declares national state of emergency and shuts the country's borders after death toll rose to 42.

11.20pm: Gunshots and explosions heard at the Bataclan.

Midnight: Police storm the building, kill three terrorists and rescue hostages. It emerged that more than 100 people were killed inside the theatre.

1am: Paris city hall spokesman said the latest death toll was at least 140 people, and confirmed that shots were fired in at least two restaurants. A witness of the attack at the theatre described a scene which 'looked like a battlefield'.

'I think the guy next to me was dead. I went out of the emergency exit at the opposite end of the road. It was only once in the road that I started to see people covered in blood.

A statement on Eagles Of Death Metal's Facebook page said: 'We are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation.'

The two explosions in a bar near the Stade de France stadium were detonated by suicide bombers, it has been confirmed.

A witness said the explosions were loud enough to be heard over the sound of cheering fans. Sirens were heard immediately and a helicopter was seen circling overhead.

A 27-year-old man, who was just 30ft from the explosion, said he felt like he was 'in a video game'.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: 'There was an explosion in front of us. It was a very loud noise. At first I thought it was a bin that had been set alight. But then I thought it wasn't a fire cracker.

'Everyone stopped. A man was on the floor screaming. I don't know what happened to the man. I just heard him scream and move around the floor. He wasn't unconscious.'

Report: Paris Attacker Was Syrian "Refugee" Who Arrived in Greece Last Month
Stade de France suicide bomber identified as would-be asylum seeker by Greek government

Reports are emerging that one of the terrorists involved in last night's Paris massacre was a Syrian refugee who arrived in Greece last month.

Greek journalist Yannis Koutsomitis tweets that the country's Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection has confirmed that the terrorist found with a Syrian passport on his person was, "registered as refugee on Leros island in October."

Koutsomitis also drew attention to a quote by Greece migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas, who on September 9th said, "It would be "foolish to believe that there are no jihadists among the refugees that cross into Europe."

A Syrian passport was discovered on the body of one of the suicide bombers who staged the attack outside the Stade de France during the France v Germany soccer game.

If confirmed, the report will be a devastating blow to Angela Merkel and other European leaders who have opened the borders to hundreds of thousands of migrants despite ISIS' vow to exploit the crisis to infiltrate jihadists into the west.

Earlier today, Merkel responded to the massacre by calling for people to express "tolerance" towards the migrants.

Numerous experts have warned that rolling out the red carpet to migrants from the Middle East would substantitally heighten the risk of terrorists being able to cross into Europe, although such concerns were dismissed by many at the time as fearmongering.

Death Toll Reaches 129 Following Paris Terror Attacks, 352 Injured

129 people have died in the aftermath of a string of terror attacks in Paris, while 99 out of 352 injured are in a critical condition, Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins stated uring a news briefing following a string of terror attacks in France's capital.

"129 people were killed, 352 wounded, 99 are in a critical condition," Francois Molins said during a press conference in Paris. Seven terrorist are dead following the attacks.

He stressed that this is a preliminary report based on the current situation.

According to Francois Molins, 89 victims alone were killed in the attack on Bataclan concert hall. This was the largest loss of life amongst all of the sites of the attacks. Two terrorists have triggered their suicide vests while one was shot by police.

The attackers wearing suicide vests used TATP (triacetone triperoxide) explosives, which are sometimes referred to as "Mother of Satan", and are easy to make.

The prosecutor stated that three teams of terrorists seem to have coordinated the attacks accross Paris.

Pretty impressive seemingly 4-feet wide bloody drag trails that we are supposed to believe are made by bodies dragged out the door, although the bodies are still lying there on the ground.

Lots of broom work to make  bold blood trails that will show up on the photo to satisfy all those "hoax conspiracy theorists" who say "I didn't see any blood."  Well, now they have given you some blood.

Drills have several purposes:
1 - Primarily, the drills provide cover, so that if a nosy citizen reports something suspicious, they can be dismissed because "there's no need to worry, they're just doing a drill."
2 - Also, if there are patsies who have been programmed to commit the crime, they must be quickly killed, so having the cops ready and active and close accomplishes this.
3 - And, of course, it makes the cops and emergency people look good, because they are seen to make a quick and effective response.
